Kanyashree Scheme Turns 12: Mamata Banerjee Congratulates Beneficiary Girls
Kolkata, Aug 2025: West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Thursday congratulated all the girls benefiting from the state’s flagship Kanyashree scheme as it celebrated its 12th anniversary. She said the scheme has not only become a source of pride for Bengal but has also set a global benchmark for empowering daughters in a short period.
In a tweet marking the occasion, the Chief Minister stated, “Today is Kanyashree Day. Our pride, Kanyashree Yojana, is completing 12 years today. Under this scheme, over 93 lakh girls have been empowered, and more than Rs 17,500 crore has been placed in their hands.”

Highlighting the scheme’s international recognition, Mamata Banerjee noted that among 552 government projects across 62 countries, Kanyashree was awarded the United Nations Public Service Award for its outstanding contribution to social empowerment. She added that few other government initiatives have achieved such rapid progress in enhancing the safety and empowerment of daughters.
“Societies where daughters are neither safe nor empowered can never progress. That is why we did not merely talk about women’s empowerment — we implemented it,” the Chief Minister said. She urged the Kanyashree beneficiaries to strive for excellence, bring glory to the state and country, and gain respect on the global stage.
Mamata Banerjee concluded with an inspiring message for the girls, saying, “You will make World Bengal one day, wearing the crown of respect on your head.” She ended her message with the slogan: “Jai Hind, Jai Bangla, Jai Kanyashree!”
The Kanyashree scheme, launched in 2010, has played a pivotal role in improving educational opportunities, delaying early marriage, and enhancing the socio-economic status of girls across West Bengal.
