Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde Reviews Rainfall Situation in Mumbai and Thane

Mumbai, Aug 2025 : Continuous heavy rainfall over the last three days has severely disrupted daily life in Mumbai and Thane district. Against this backdrop, Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde on Tuesday conducted inspections of several areas in Mumbai and Thane. He reviewed the situation around the Mithi River and its adjoining areas, and also visited the landslide-prone Vikhroli Parksite locality. During the visit, he directed the municipal administration to keep disaster management systems fully prepared. MLA Dilip Lande accompanied him on this inspection.

In Thane, waterlogging was reported in Naupada and Chikhalwadi in Kopri, which are low-lying areas prone to flooding even after moderate rain. DCM Shinde instructed Thane Municipal Commissioner Saurabh Rao to deploy pumps to drain out the accumulated water. He informed that Thane recorded around 225 mm of rainfall, causing waterlogging in several areas. The disaster management cell of the municipal corporation has launched efforts on a war footing to ensure timely drainage, while keeping close watch on the rain situation.

At Bandra, DCM Shinde inspected the Mithi River and adjoining areas, where NDRF teams and boats have already been deployed. Two days earlier, a landslide occurred at Varsha Nagar, a hilly settlement in Vikhroli Parksite. Shinde visited this landslide-prone zone as part of today’s review. He also held a phone discussion earlier in the morning with the Mumbai Municipal Commissioner regarding the city’s rain preparedness.

Deputy Chief Minister Shinde assured that the state government and the municipal administration are fully equipped to handle the situation. He appealed to citizens to remain cautious and venture outdoors only if absolutely necessary, as heavy rainfall continues in Mumbai and surrounding areas.
