Tamil Nadu CM M.K. Stalin Inaugurates New Industrial Training Institutes, Labour Welfare Facilities, and Workers’ Rest Home at a Cost of ₹173.86 Crore
Chennai, Aug 25: Hon’ble Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Thiru M.K. Stalin today inaugurated several new labour welfare and skill development facilities, including 19 new Government Industrial Training Institutes (ITIs), three newly constructed ITI buildings, a Labour Court Complex in Chennai, an Integrated Labour Office Building in Tiruppur, and a Singaravelar Workers’ Rest Home at Coimbatore. These projects were completed at a total cost of ₹173.86 crore under the Labour Welfare and Skill Development Department.
Tamil Nadu, which has played a significant role in India’s economic growth, has been focusing on creating a skilled workforce for modern industries. To strengthen technical training, 71 Government ITIs were upgraded as technology centres at a cost of ₹2,877 crore and were launched earlier by the Hon’ble Chief Minister. As a result of these initiatives, 29 students, including those trained in Industry 4.0 trades, secured top national ranks in 2024, bringing pride to the state.
Under the “Naan Mudhalvan” scheme, students have been trained in English communication, soft skills, and modern technologies through short-term courses at technology centres. This has resulted in enhanced employability, with over 90% of trainees securing jobs in leading companies.
Keeping in mind the slogan “Education and Skills for All,” new ITIs were established in 19 locations including Tanjore, Marakkanam, Villupuram, Ambur, Sembanarkoil, O.Pudur, Tiruvotriyur, Manapparai, Kangeyam, Kurukkalpatti, Tiruchengodu, Krishnagiri, Tiruvallur, Kanchipuram, Tirupparankundram, Mannachanallur, Parur, and Karumangalam. Additionally, three new ITI buildings were constructed at Perumpakkam, Ottanchathiram, and Kadaikudi at a cost of ₹17.64 crore.
As part of labour welfare initiatives, several schemes for construction workers have been implemented. In the past four years alone, welfare assistance worth ₹2,811.52 crore has been disbursed to 31.39 lakh registered construction workers, covering education, marriage, maternity, spectacles, natural death, accident relief, funeral aid, disability pensions, and monthly pensions.
In continuation of these efforts, the Hon’ble Chief Minister inaugurated the newly constructed Labour Court Administrative Office at Anna Nagar, Chennai (₹27.67 crore), the Integrated Labour Office at Thottipalayam, Tiruppur, and the Singaravelar Workers’ Rest Home at Coimbatore.
The event was attended by Hon’ble Minister for Environment & Climate Change Thiru S. Raghupathy, Hon’ble Minister for Rural Development & Panchayati Raj Thiru K.R. Periyakaruppan, Hon’ble Minister for Transport & Electricity Thiru S.S. Sivasankar, Hon’ble Minister for Labour Welfare and Skill Development Thiru C.V. Ganesan, Chief Secretary Thiru Shiv Das Meena, IAS, and senior officials from various government departments.
