Chief Minister: Zero Carbon Green Steel to Unlock Economic Potential
To deal with the challenge of climate change, the whole world is turning towards green steel. Being one of the leading states in the production of steel, green steel has brought great possibilities for Chhattisgarh as well. This will not only help us in achieving the targets of carbon emission, but by taking new initiatives in this field, we can open the doors to the possibilities of big economic achievements. This was said by Chief Minister Shri Vishnu Dev Sai while attending the Green Steel Summit 2024 organized at Mayfair Lake Resort in Nava Raipur Atal Nagar. This summit has been organized with the aim of making the Indian steel industry carbon free. Leading industrialists, businessmen from across the country were present in the summit.
On this occasion, Chief Minister Shri Vishnu Dev Sai congratulated CII for organizing the event in his address and said that Chhattisgarh state is the most prominent steel producer in India. We have big units like Bhilai Steel Plant and Nagarnar Steel Plant in the public sector, along with this, many small and big steel plants are also operating in the private sector.
The Chief Minister said that Bhilai Steel Plant is the largest steel plant in Asia and Chhattisgarh has huge iron reserves, prominent among which are Bailadila, Raoghat and Dallirajhara. Chhattisgarh contributes about 20 percent of the total steel produced in the country and the contribution of industries in the state’s economy is 53.50 percent.
The Chief Minister also highlighted the global concerns of pollution generated by the steel industry and said that our illustrious Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi Ji has put forward the vision of achieving the goal of zero carbon emission by the year 2070. He appreciated the announcement of the National Green Hydrogen Mission by the Union Ministry of New and Renewable Energy and mentioned the efforts to promote the use of solar energy and green energy in the state.
The Chief Minister said that this summit of CII is an important effort with the aim of making the Indian steel industry carbon-free. Today we are talking about an interesting topic like green steel in this summit. This word has beauty as well as responsibility.
The Chief Minister called upon all the representatives present at the summit to move forward rapidly towards adopting new technology of green steel production and said that with our unity we will develop together by creating a healthy competitive environment.
Leading industrialists from across the country as well as international representatives were present in this summit, who shared their views on the efforts being made towards green steel production and new technologies.
