Karachi Named Second Most Dangerous City in the World: A Blow to Pakistan’s Tourism Hopes
As Pakistan grapples with severe economic challenges, the country has been eager to attract tourists to boost its struggling economy. However, recent findings have cast a shadow over these ambitions. A recent report has revealed that Karachi, one of Pakistan’s largest cities, is ranked as the second most dangerous city in the world. The report, released on July 11 by Forbes Advisor, rates Karachi with a concerning score of 93.12 out of 100 for safety.
Karachi’s grim ranking places it just behind Caracas, Venezuela, which topped the list with a perfect score of 100. Yangon, Myanmar, follows as the third most dangerous city with a score of 91.67. The report highlights several critical factors contributing to Karachi’s perilous status, including significant risks related to personal safety, crime, violence, terrorism, natural disasters, and economic instability.
The severity of these risks is underscored by the US State Department’s travel advisory, which has rated Karachi with one of the lowest safety scores for travelers, urging caution and reconsideration of travel plans. This sobering assessment underscores the city’s current challenges and raises concerns about its ability to attract and safely host international visitors.
