Sugamya Yatra/Access Audit Report
The Rights of Persons with Disabilities Act, 2016 places great importance on the Sugamya Yatra/Access Audit (Accessible India Campaign) initiated by the Government of India. Its purpose is to ensure that people in rural as well as urban areas—including wheelchair users, persons with visual impairments, and others—have access to essential public buildings such as places of worship, government offices, educational institutions, and more. The Act mandates that such buildings must be made accessible to all.
To support this initiative, the Sugamya Yatra Audit Teams along with some community members regularly visit and inspect these facilities. The Accessible India Campaign is being actively implemented throughout the country.
In Mizoram, the Commissioner for Persons with Disabilities, in collaboration with the National Institute for Locomotor Disabilities (NILD), conducted access audits on 19th September 2025 at Pachhunga University College, the Presbyterian Church of India (Republic Veng), and the Administrative Training Institute, MINECO.
This programme has already been launched in seven districts of Mizoram, and efforts are underway to extend access audits across the entire state.
