Farmer of Jhagarpur, Shri Khageshwar Pradhan, earns ₹2 lakh net profit from advanced brinjal cultivation
Becomes a source of inspiration for farmers
Raipur, Sept 2025 : Shri Khageshwar Pradhan, a progressive farmer from village Jhagarpur in Lailunga development block of Raigarh district, has proven that if traditional methods are combined with innovation and scientific techniques, farming can become a highly profitable business. By cultivating advanced brinjal on one acre of land, he earned a net profit of around ₹2 lakh. With this remarkable success, Shri Pradhan has started advanced brinjal cultivation on one more acre this year and is now moving towards the target of higher productivity.
For brinjal farming with scientific methods, Shri Pradhan selected high-quality seeds and took technical guidance from the Horticulture Department. He modernized farming with the advice and schemes provided from time to time by the department. By adopting balanced organic fertilizers, modern irrigation systems, and timely plant protection measures, he ensured excellent nutrition and safety for the crop. As a result of these innovations, Shri Pradhan achieved a yield of 123 quintals of brinjal per acre, which is double compared to traditional farming.
Farmer Shri Pradhan incurred a total cost of ₹46,000 in brinjal cultivation, and the market price of brinjal was ₹20 per kilogram. Thus, he earned a total of ₹2,46,000. Shri Pradhan secured a net profit of about ₹2 lakh, which shows that with the right technology, planning, and hard work, farming is no longer a loss-making venture but can become the foundation of self-reliance.
Excited by his success, farmer Shri Khageshwar Pradhan says that along with hard work, the use of correct knowledge and technology is the key to success in farming. If farmers adopt improved seeds, nutrition management, and modern agricultural practices, farming can become far more profitable. Officials of the Horticulture Department appreciated the achievement of Shri Pradhan, stating that his success has spread enthusiasm among other farmers. Farmers from Jhagarpur and nearby villages are now moving towards adopting improved seeds, organic fertilizers, and modern irrigation techniques, which is a positive sign of the changing agricultural landscape in the region.
