Menstrual Health & Hygiene Awareness Programme Organized Under “Project Period Pride” in Lungsenah
Lunglei, Oct 2025 : As part of the “Project Period Pride” initiative, a menstrual health and hygiene awareness programme was conducted at Lungsen Chhimveng Hall for adolescent girls in Lunglei District. The programme aimed to educate young girls on menstrual health, hygiene, and related issues.
The programme was organized with the support of the Lunglei Deputy Commissioner, Health & Family Welfare Department, School Education Department, and Women & Child Development Department. A total of 188 students from various schools, including Government Middle School-I, Government Middle School-II, Gospel Centenary School, Government High School, and Senior Secondary School, attended the session.
During the programme, Dr. Lalremruati, Medical Officer at Lungsen Primary Health Centre (PHC), provided guidance on menstrual health, hygiene practices, and important aspects of adolescent health. Additionally, Pu Vanlalsanga, Child Development Project Officer from Lungsen ICDS Project, spoke about the adverse effects of child marriage and underlined the importance of protecting girls from early marriage, as well as issues related to malnutrition in India.
The session also included a quiz for the students, organized jointly by the Health & Family Welfare Department and ICDS, to reinforce learning and engage students interactively. The winners of the quiz were:

- Lancy Lalngaihsaka, Class VII
- Remsangpuia, Class VI
This awareness programme is part of the district’s broader efforts to promote adolescent health, hygiene awareness, and empowerment of girls, ensuring they are informed, confident, and capable of making safe choices regarding their health.
