Denmark Signs Agreement on further European Union’s investments in Defence.

The Danish Presidency, the European Parliament and the Commission have reached an agreement to encourage defence related investments in the current EU budget. As part of the ReArm Europe plan, the agreement ensures that existing programmes in the EU budget can be used to a greater extent to finance defence related projects and thus contribute to the EU’s ambitions that Europe should be able to defend itself by 2030.

I am pleased that the Danish Presidency has once again succeeded in reaching an agreement that contributes to strengthening the EU’s defence preparedness. This is crucial in light of the current security policy situation. The agreement is a very good example of how we in the EU can also bring concrete measures into play that can support the rearmament of Europe. It is therefore also another milestone in the work to ensure the EU’s defence preparedness towards 2030“, says Minister of Defence Troels Lund Poulsen.

The agreement contains adjustments to a number of EU programmes that are intended to ensure more investment in defence technologies, dual-use technologies and innovation. In addition, as part of the agreement, it was possible to reach an agreement to associate Ukraine to the European Defence Fund for the first time, which is a significant step towards Ukraine’s integration into the European defence industry.

The agreement is part of the EU’s ReArm Europe plan, which the European Commission presented in March 2025. The agreement follows on from the recently concluded agreement on the European Defence Industrial Programme (EDIP), which includes financial support of around 11 billion kroner for the European defence industry. This agreement was also concluded during the Danish presidency.

The Danish presidency has defence and security as a top priority, and once again we are delivering results in strong cooperation with the other member states and the EU institutions. With today’s agreement, we are sending a clear signal that Europe is working purposefully to ensure a strengthened defence towards 2030. The agreement is intended to enable more investments in defence technology and research. This is positive, because we need that“, says Minister for European Affairs Marie Bjerre.
