Kolkata, Nov 10: Former India pace legend Jhulan Goswami congratulated young wicketkeeper-batter Richa Ghosh after the newly crowned World Cup champion received the prestigious Banga Bhushan—one of West Bengal’s highest civilian honours—on Saturday. The 22-year-old played a pivotal role in India’s historic ODI World Cup triumph, earning accolades from across the cricketing world.
The Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB) hosted a grand felicitation ceremony at Kolkata’s iconic Eden Gardens to celebrate Ghosh’s contribution to the national team’s success. Jhulan Goswami, along with former India captain and ex-BCCI president Sourav Ganguly, graced the occasion, marking a proud moment for Bengal cricket.
On Monday, Jhulan shared a video of the ceremony posted by West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on X and wrote:
“Thank you for having me. Honoured to be present at this special occasion. Richa’s journey reflects the determination and spirit that define Bengal’s daughters. Proud to see her talent being recognised at such a level, and even prouder to see her inspire the next generation. My heartfelt congratulations to @13richaghosh. May she continue to shine for India and Bengal.”
During the ceremony, Ghosh was presented with a bouquet, a memento, and a cheque of ₹34 lakh by the CAB. In addition to the state honour, Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee also handed her a golden bat and a golden ball—a symbolic tribute to her contribution to India’s World Cup victory.
Sharing highlights of the event on X, the Chief Minister wrote:
“Bengal’s daughters are Bengal’s greatest pride. I had the privilege of attending a special felicitation ceremony organised by the Cricket Association of Bengal at the iconic Eden Gardens, honouring Richa Ghosh for her outstanding contribution to India’s World Cup triumph.”
She further announced Ghosh’s appointment as Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) in the West Bengal Police, noting that the state government is committed to recognising exceptional talent from all fields.

The CM also highlighted the significance of having cricket legends present at the event.
“The presence of legends like Shri Sourav Ganguly, Smt. Jhulan Goswami, and other distinguished guests made the evening even more memorable. May more daughters like Richa continue to emerge from every home in Bengal, inspiring generations and carrying our nation’s name to even greater heights on the world stage.”
With this recognition, Richa Ghosh has not only cemented her reputation as one of India’s brightest young cricketing talents but has also become a symbol of aspiration for countless young girls across Bengal.
