FIR Against Tej Pratap Yadav Sparks Political Row in Bihar; Former Minister Denies Charges
Patna, June 2026 : A fresh political controversy has erupted in Bihar after an FIR was registered against former state minister and Janshakti Janata Dal national president Tej Pratap Yadav at Patliputra police station in Patna following directions from a local court. The case has been filed by Akash Yadav, former state president of Chhatra RJD and brother of Anushka Yadav, who has recently been at the centre of public discussions due to her alleged association with Tej Pratap Yadav.
The registration of the FIR has triggered intense political debate in the state, with police launching an investigation into the allegations while Tej Pratap Yadav has strongly denied all charges, calling them politically motivated and fabricated.
According to officials, the complaint alleges that Akash Yadav received death threats and intimidation. Patna ASP (Law and Order) Divyanjali Jaiswal confirmed that the complainant submitted an audio recording as part of the evidence. Police have begun examining the recording and verifying all aspects of the complaint.
Investigators said the alleged threats were made through a phone call originating from a United States-based number. Authorities are now working to establish the authenticity of the call records, identify the individuals involved and determine whether the allegations can be substantiated through available evidence.
As per the FIR, the alleged incident occurred on June 6 when Tej Pratap Yadav, accompanied by his associate Motilal Yadav, allegedly visited Akash Yadav’s residence in the Patliputra area of Patna. At the time, Akash Yadav was reportedly away on a pilgrimage to the Khatu Shyam temple.
The complaint alleges that the accused attempted to forcibly enter the residence and threatened family members who were present at the house. Akash Yadav has further claimed that he later received threatening phone calls from Motilal Yadav and another individual who allegedly identified himself as a member of a criminal gang.
According to the complainant, the callers warned him against making public statements against the former minister and allegedly issued threats directed at him and his family members.
Reacting strongly to the FIR, Tej Pratap Yadav rejected all allegations and described the case as a deliberate attempt to tarnish his reputation. In a detailed statement posted on his official social media account, he asserted that the complaint was driven by personal vendetta and had been filed after legal notices were allegedly issued regarding the complainant’s conduct.
The former minister maintained that the accusations were baseless and intended solely to damage his public image and political standing. He emphasized that he has always respected democratic principles, constitutional institutions and the rule of law.
Tej Pratap further accused his political opponents and detractors of misusing legal mechanisms to spread misinformation and carry out character assassination. Expressing confidence in the judicial process, he said he believes the truth will emerge through evidence and proper legal scrutiny.
He also indicated that he would pursue all available legal remedies against those whom he believes are attempting to malign his image.
Meanwhile, police officials have reiterated that the FIR marks the beginning of the investigation and not a conclusion regarding the allegations. Authorities said all evidence, including the audio recordings, phone records and statements submitted by the complainant, will be thoroughly examined before any further action is taken.
Given the high-profile nature of the individuals involved, the case has attracted considerable political attention across Bihar. With investigations underway and both sides standing firmly by their claims, the matter is expected to remain in the spotlight as legal proceedings continue in the coming days.
