Adani Group Launches India’s Largest Battery Energy Storage Project at Khavda

Ahmedabad, Nov 2025 : The Adani Group on Tuesday announced a major expansion into the Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) sector with a landmark 1,126 MW/3,530 MWh project set to be commissioned by March 2026. The initiative marks one of the world’s largest single-location BESS deployments and the biggest such installation ever undertaken in India.

The project will involve the deployment of more than 700 BESS containers, designed to store renewable energy and release it during peak demand hours. With a power capacity of 1,126 MW and a total storage capacity of 3,530 MWh, the system will enable the extension of the project’s full power output for a three-hour duration, significantly strengthening grid stability and flexibility.

Gautam Adani, Chairman of the Adani Group, said the project underscores the company’s long-term commitment to clean energy innovation and national energy security.
Energy storage is the cornerstone of a renewable-powered future. With this historic project, we are not only setting global benchmarks but also reinforcing our commitment to India’s energy independence and sustainability. This initiative will enable us to deliver reliable, clean, and affordable energy solutions at scale,” he stated.

With this strategic foray, the Adani Group joins the ranks of global energy leaders investing in large-scale energy storage solutions. The company said the investment represents a key milestone in India’s transition to a low-carbon future and will support the nation’s goal of achieving round-the-clock renewable power availability.

The BESS installation will help ease peak load pressures, reduce transmission congestion, and minimise solar curtailment—problems that frequently challenge renewable-rich regions. By storing excess solar and wind power generated during off-peak hours, the system will release clean electricity exactly when needed, thus enhancing the grid’s overall resilience and efficiency.

Currently in advanced stages of development at Khavda—home to the world’s largest renewable energy park—the project uses state-of-the-art lithium-ion technology integrated with intelligent energy management systems to ensure optimal performance and high operational reliability.

Beyond this flagship project, the Adani Group has outlined an ambitious roadmap for large-scale energy storage. The company plans to deploy an additional 15 GWh of BESS capacity by March 2027, with a long-term vision of achieving 50 GWh of total capacity within the next five years.
