Mumbai on High Alert After Delhi Blast; ED Raids Over 25 Locations Linked to Al-Falah Group

Nov 2025 : Following the recent blast in Delhi, the Mumbai Police has declared a high alert across the city, intensifying vigilance and strengthening security arrangements. Authorities have increased surveillance at all sensitive locations, with senior officials closely monitoring developments.

A senior Mumbai Police official said that terrorism has emerged as one of the gravest threats facing major Indian cities. He noted that metropolitan regions remain prime targets, and security agencies are treating the current threat landscape with utmost seriousness. All possible precautions, he added, are being taken to ensure public safety.

The official also pointed to a significant shift in the profile of individuals involved in terrorist activities. Earlier, he said, those participating in such acts were often poorly educated or uneducated. However, since around 2006–2007, this pattern has changed. Increasingly, young men who are well-educated and come from financially stable families are being drawn into extremist organisations. This evolving trend poses greater challenges for security agencies, as such individuals are often more discreet, technologically savvy, and more difficult to identify through traditional intelligence methods.

In response, the Mumbai Police has intensified efforts to ensure that the city’s youth do not drift toward radicalisation or extremist influences. Public awareness programmes, counselling sessions, and targeted community-based interventions are being expanded. The official explained that when a young person is found engaging in suspicious behaviour, the police coordinate with his family, community leaders, teachers, and socially responsible citizens to guide him back toward a constructive path. Preventive policing, he said, is becoming an increasingly important pillar of Mumbai’s security strategy.

The Mumbai Police emphasised that effective counter-terrorism measures are not possible without active public participation. Only through coordinated efforts between security agencies and vigilant citizens, officials said, can major cities be safeguarded against emerging threats.

Meanwhile, in connection with the Delhi Red Fort blast, the Enforcement Directorate (ED) launched a major enforcement operation on Tuesday, conducting search actions at more than 25 premises linked to the Al-Falah group. The coordinated raids, which started around 5 a.m., are underway at the university’s headquarters in Okhla, its Jamia Nagar office, and several locations associated with trustees of the institution.

Security has been reinforced across these areas as ED teams continue searches, examining documents, digital records, and financial transactions. The university came under the scanner after three doctors associated with it were identified as suspects in the Red Fort blast case.

The ED’s action follows directives from the government to conduct a detailed inquiry into the institution’s funding sources. A forensic audit of the university’s accounts has been ordered, and the Delhi Police’s Economic Offences Wing (EOW) has also joined the investigation. While the National Investigation Agency (NIA) is probing the blast itself, the ED and EOW are now examining the university’s financial activities and operational conduct to determine whether any irregularities or links to extremist networks exist.
