CM Rekha Gupta Announces Public Holiday on 25 November to Mark the 350th Martyrdom Anniversary of Guru Tegh Bahadur

New Delhi, Nov 2025 : Delhi Chief Minister Smt Rekha Gupta today announced that the Delhi Government has decided to declare a public holiday on 25 November 2025 (Tuesday) to mark the sacred occasion of the 350th martyrdom anniversary of Guru Tegh Bahadur Sahib. The holiday will offer citizens an opportunity to pay homage to Guru Sahib’s unparalleled sacrifice, his spiritual guidance, and his unwavering commitment to the protection of humanity.

The Chief Minister said that Guru Tegh Bahadur Ji’s life stands as a timeless and powerful symbol of resistance against tyranny, religious intolerance and injustice. He was not only a revered Guru of the Sikh faith but also a guardian of humanity. By laying down his life, he defended India’s religious freedom and affirmed that truth and righteousness must be upheld, whatever the cost.

She noted that Guru Sahib’s supreme sacrifice represents an immortal chapter in history, reminding us that the defence of others’ freedom and dignity is the true essence of humanity. His message of courage, compassion, tolerance, brotherhood and respect for all faiths remains as relevant today as it was three centuries ago.

Reflecting on Guru Tegh Bahadur Ji’s life and legacy, the Chief Minister said that his teachings will continue to inspire the creation of a more just, peaceful and inclusive society. She added that the public holiday is not a mere formality but a heartfelt tribute from the Delhi Government to Guru Sahib’s extraordinary sacrifice. The Chief Minister appealed to all citizens to observe this day with reverence, unity and a spirit of service, and to imbibe Guru Sahib’s teachings in their daily lives.
