School Education Minister Dr. Vanlalthlana Graces Khawrihnim Primary School Centenary Celebration
Aizawl, Nov 2025: School Education Minister Dr. Vanlalthlana attended the Government Khawrihnim Primary School Centenary celebration held at the Khawrihnim Primary School campus as the special guest, and formally launched the Centenary commemorative programme.
Speaking at the event, the Minister said he was pleased that Govt. Khawrihnim Primary School had now reached 100 years. He added that it was heartening that many successful people had emerged from this school.
The Minister said that in the field of education, cooperation is required from village leaders, volunteers, and parents; and when the locality stands united, even MLAs cannot hinder them, stressing the importance of cooperation between government and the public.
The Minister mentioned that social media has exerted strong influence on both urban and rural areas, and that to use them properly we need to be very cautious. He said that smartphones and TVs must be used responsibly. Parents need to be aware that progress brings new challenges that require careful attention. He urged parents to guide their children in their studies. Teachers, he said, are the ones who discover and create new things, and must be prepared to teach new topics included in the syllabus.
The Minister further stated that to improve the education system, from the third term of the current session onwards, students will have to answer questions based on understanding. Students from Class V–VIII of Government, Deficit, and Adhoc Grant-in-aid schools will have to follow this method, and he believes this will bring change in learning.
Guest of honour Prof. H. Lalthanzara, Principal of Pachhunga University College, released the souvenir at the event. In his speech, he highlighted the importance of educational foundations, saying that parents play a vital role in building good learning habits. He also expressed appreciation for the school as his alma mater and encouraged continued progress.
Pi Angela Zothanpuii, Director of School Education Department, Pi Caroline Zoramthangi, Director SCERT, and Pu C. Lalthanzira, State Project Director of Samagra Shiksha, also delivered speeches in honour of the Centenary celebration.
Government Khawrihnim Primary School was one of the three schools established in the Thingtlanga area in 1901. Since 1925, it has continued functioning without interruption. The first Headmaster was Pu Chalsuakpuia. To date, 17 teachers have served in this school, and at present there are 51 students enrolled.
The Centenary celebration was held at the school campus, where the Minister was welcomed by the School Education Officers. The event was attended by retired and current teachers of the school, students and alumni, village leaders, and parents.
