Champhai District Consumer Union and Legal Metrology Deptt Conduct Joint Weighing Inspections

Nov 2025: To ensure that the public receives fair trade, the Champhai District Consumer Union, in collaboration with Mr. V. Lalfakzuala, Assistant Controller of the Legal Metrology Department, conducted weighing inspections at various markets in Champhai, including Awmpui Market, Tuipui Market, and Bethel Kawn Market.

The inspections focused on weights, measures, scales, measuring instruments, and other related devices. During the checks, five individuals were found using faulty or non-compliant weighing instruments.

Additionally, seven people were summoned to the Legal Metrology office for further action. The inspections revealed serious irregularities, particularly with weights and measuring devices in Bawngsa and Vawksa, which were found to be highly inaccurate.

The market inspections were overseen by Champhai District Consumer Union President Mr. C. Lalthawmliana and other officials. Accompanying them were Legal Metrology Assistant Controller Mr. Lalfakzuala, Inspector Mr. Felix Lalruatsanga, and four other staff members.

The Champhai District Consumer Union and the Legal Metrology Department reiterated that these joint inspections aim to protect consumers and ensure fair trade practices.
