Eastern Railway Women’s Welfare Organisation Of Eastern Railway Malda Division Organises Menstrual Hygiene Awareness Programme.

Malda; December 2025:

With the objective of promoting women’s health and hygiene, the Eastern Railway Women’s Welfare Organisation (ERWWO), Malda Division, organised a Menstrual Hygiene Awareness Programme On 16.12.2025 under the guidance of Mrs. Manisha Gupta, President of ERWWO/Malda, at the Kadamtala Slum Area, Malda. The initiative focused on generating awareness among women and adolescent girls, with special emphasis on the distribution of sanitary napkins.

During the programme, sanitary napkins were distributed to women and adolescent girls by members of ERWWO/Malda, along with educational inputs on menstrual hygiene, health, and safe practices. The programme aimed to dispel myths, encourage healthy habits, and support personal hygiene among underprivileged women.

In addition to the awareness drive, food packets were also distributed among the women and children present, thereby adding a welfare component to the initiative and extending care beyond health-related assistance.

ERWWO/Malda remains steadfast committed to organise similar programmes wherever and whenever required in promoting women-centric welfare, health awareness, and social support at the grassroots level.

Such an initiative by the ERWWO/Malda is in accordance with the Menstrual Hygiene Scheme(MHS) implemented by the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare who had introduced the scheme for promotion of menstrual hygiene among adolescent girls in the age group of 10-19 year in rural areas.

The major objectives of the scheme are:

  • To increase awareness among adolescent girls on Menstrual Hygiene
  • To increase access to and use of high quality sanitary napkins to adolescent girls in rural areas.
  • To ensure safe disposal of Sanitary Napkins in an environmentally friendly manner.

A range of IEC material has been developed around MHS, using a 360 degree approach to create awareness among adolescent girls about safe & hygienic menstrual health practices which includes audio, video and reading materials for adolescent girls and job-aids for ASHAs and other field level functionaries for communicating with adolescent girls.
