Chief Minister Inaugurates Govt. Serchhip College 4th Winter Cum Cultural Fest

Serchhip, December 2025: The 4th Winter Cum Cultural Fest organised at the Serchhip Government College campus was inaugurated today by Chief Minister Pu Lalduhoma, who attended as the local MLA and chief guest.

Speaking at the inauguration ceremony, the Chief Minister highlighted that the college’s achievements under the National Assessment & Accreditation Council (NAAC) were noteworthy, stating that Serchhip College has been graded ‘A’ and should continue to strive for a higher grade so that the public can take pride in it. He added that the festival was not only a community-driven initiative but that income generated from the event would also be utilised by various college clubs for their activities. He said that the college could now focus on a dual approach—celebrating student activities and academic development.

The Chief Minister also mentioned that he tries to spend as much time as possible with young students. He emphasised the need to remain alert and hardworking. He recalled that in May this year, Mizoram was declared a fully literate state, the first in India. However, he pointed out that in wider national comparisons, the Mizo community still lags behind other communities in several sectors, primarily due to lower performance in national examinations. He said this continued gap affects opportunities, including ST quota benefits. He called for determination and discipline to overcome such disadvantages.

To support students, he said the state government aims to further strengthen Mizoram State University, and that plans are underway to start classes at Mizoram Engineering College in Lunglei from next year.

He stated that the government has significantly expanded its work, and despite challenges, progress continues transparently. Under a new five-year initiative, Support Price is being provided, and parents are already receiving income directly. He added that the government also financially supports self-employment projects without discrimination.

He noted that the government has worked hard to reduce unemployment, enabling young people to become productive, and that skills training is being provided to improve employability.

He said the government is working sincerely to improve the lives of unemployed and daily wage earners, though it also carries the concern that the youth must not be neglected.

To ensure the success of the Winter Fest, prizes were awarded to those who won slogan competitions held as part of the festival.

Principal Pu C. Laldintluanga, who chaired the programme, expressed gratitude to the Chief Minister and said that the presence of students, their families, and the Serchhip community reflected the importance of the event. He appreciated the students’ entrepreneurship skills showcased in the fest and said the festival was organised with strong purpose and vision.

Dr. Zarzosanga, Organising Secretary, delivered the introductory report, stating that the budget for the fest was Rs 5.6 lakh, and that the Chief Minister had made a generous contribution. He added that the Chief Minister has been consistently supporting the event since the first Winter Fest and continues to lead its development.

Organising Chairman Pu K. Lalrinchhana proposed a vote of thanks, after which the ceremony concluded.
