Independence Day 2024 Grandly Celebrated in Siaha
Siaha : Today, at 9:30 AM, the 78th Independence Day of India was celebrated with great enthusiasm at SDFA Ground, Meisatla, Siaha. The event was presided over by Home Minister Pu K Sapdanga, who was the chief guest. He reviewed the parade, which featured various contingents proudly displaying their national spirit.
In his address, the chief guest emphasized the significance of those who have fought for India’s independence, highlighting the importance of understanding and appreciating the value of freedom. He called on the citizens to reflect on the sacrifices made for the country’s independence and to continue striving for the nation’s betterment.
Minister Pu K Sapdanga also acknowledged the challenges faced by neighboring countries and the impact on India’s economy, noting the need for collective efforts to overcome these obstacles. He encouraged students, especially those in Siaha, to embrace modern technology and internet literacy, urging them to use their education and skills to contribute to the progress of Mizoram.
The Minister highlighted various government initiatives aimed at improving education in the district, including the allocation of ₹55,37,400/- for the Free School Uniform Grant, distribution of textbooks to 8,408 elementary school students, and the provision of Mid-Day Meals to approximately 202 elementary schools. He also praised the performance of Siaha students in the Combined Competitive Exams, urging them to continue their excellence.
Regarding agriculture, the Minister spoke about the state’s commitment to developing the Muga Silk Industry in Siaha district, which will benefit 400 families across 21 villages. He reassured the public that the government’s efforts, including schemes like NREGS, PMKSY, and various livelihood missions, are aimed at improving the living standards of the people.
The chief guest also praised the Health & Family Welfare Department for their efforts in improving healthcare in the district. He noted the successes in managing TB and HIV, and the reduction in infant mortality rates, although he expressed concern over the 41 neonatal deaths recorded this year, emphasizing the need for better maternal and child health education and awareness.
Minister Pu K Sapdanga urged the citizens of Siaha to work towards making the district a peaceful, progressive, and vibrant place. He encouraged them to uphold honesty, integrity, and resilience, and to work together with faith in God for the betterment of their community.
During the celebration, Inspector Beihai Hlychho of Siaha DEF was awarded the Governor’s Gold Medal for his outstanding service over 38 years. The Minister presented the award, along with prizes for the Best Polling Party from the recent MP Election. The winners were:

Today’s Parade Commander was Siaha SDPO Pu Lalnunhlua MPS, with Inspector H Lalramnghaka as the 2nd Commander, and Company Commander of the 3rd IR Bn Siaha. Presbyterian English School, Siaha, beautifully sang the National Anthem. The parade featured 22 contingents, including 2 Armed Contingents, 2 Unarmed Uniform Contingents, 17 School Contingents, and the Govt High School Pipe Band. The parade winners were:

- Southern English Comprehensive School
- Auxillium English School
After the Independence Day program, Minister Pu K Sapdanga attended the “VIPs at Home” reception organized by the Chief Executive Member (CEM) of the Mara Autonomous District Council, Pu M Laikaw. Later, he inaugurated the Artificial Football Turf in Thosai village, constructed at a cost of ₹4.20 crore. The turf was immediately transported to Lawngtlai.
