Tribal Heroes’ Saga Comes Alive in Chhattisgarh’s Tableau on Rajpath
‘Mantra of Freedom – Vande Mataram’ Theme Showcases the Nation’s First Tribal Digital Museum
Raipur, January 2026: This Republic Day, Chhattisgarh’s tableau on Rajpath is set to become one of the main attractions for the nation. Based on the theme “Mantra of Freedom – Vande Mataram,” the tableau will magnificently showcase the heroic legacy of tribal freedom fighters through the nation’s first tribal digital museum.
During a press preview held today at the National Stadium Camp, the Ministry of Defence presented the tableau to members of the national media. Through the display, tributes are being paid to immortal tribal heroes who resisted the unjust laws of British rule and sacrificed their lives for India’s freedom.
In their memory, the nation’s first tribal digital museum has been established in Nava Raipur Atal Nagar, where the freedom movements of 14 major tribal communities across India, including Chhattisgarh, are preserved using modern digital technologies. The museum was inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on the occasion of the Silver Jubilee of Chhattisgarh State formation.
After obtaining final approval from the expert committee, officials from the Department of Public Relations and artists worked day and night over the past month to finalize the tableau. This year, the Republic Day parade on Rajpath will feature tableaux from 17 states.
Inspirational Scenes Depicted in the Tableau
At the front of the tableau, the hero Veer Gundadhur, leader of the historic 1910 Bhumkal Rebellion, is depicted. This great leader of the Dhurwa community united the tribal society against injustice. Symbolic elements of the rebellion, such as mango branches and dried chili, are prominently displayed. The scale of the rebellion is evident from the fact that the British had to call in troops from Nagpur but still failed to capture Veer Gundadhur.
At the rear of the tableau, Chhattisgarh’s first martyr, Veer Narayan Singh, is shown riding a horse, sword in hand. He fought for the welfare of the poor and marginalized during times of famine and played a pivotal role in the First War of Independence in 1857.
The entire tableau vividly expresses the indomitable courage, patriotism, and unwavering commitment to freedom of the tribal community, making it a powerful tribute to their legacy.
