Prayagraj, January 2026 : The Basant Panchami holy dip at the Magh Mela in Prayagraj concluded successfully, setting a historic milestone. An unprecedented 3.56 crore devotees took the sacred dip on Basant Panchami alone, creating a new record at the Magh Mela. Exceptional arrangements made by the government and local administration ensured the smooth conduct of the event and facilitated the participation of millions of devotees.
On the auspicious occasion of Basant Panchami, the festival dedicated to Goddess Saraswati, the deity of knowledge, an immense sea of devotees gathered at the Triveni Sangam to take the holy dip.
Magh Mela Officer Rishiraj stated that the number of devotees who bathed at the Sangam on Basant Panchami surpassed even the figures recorded during the Mahakumbh 2025. He further informed that, so far, over 15 crore devotees have taken the sacred dip at the Triveni during Magh Mela 2026. The massive turnout at the Sangam ghats stands as a testament to both the deep faith of devotees and the unprecedented administrative preparations.
On the fourth major Snan of the Magh Mela, eminent saints, religious leaders, and Kalpavasis engaged in spiritual practices across the Mela area and also participated in the holy bath. Purvamnaya Shri Govardhan Math, Puri Peethadheeshwar Shankaracharya Swami Nischalanand Saraswati arrived at the banks of the Triveni along with his disciples. Walking from the area designated by the administration to the Sangam Nose, he took the holy dip at the sacred confluence of the Ganga, Yamuna, and the invisible Saraswati with simplicity and devotion. Along with him, Dandi Swami saints, Ramanandi saints, and followers of the Ramanujacharya tradition also performed the sacred Snan. Members of the Kinnar Akhara, filled with devotion and enthusiasm, likewise reached the Sangam and participated in the auspicious Basant Panchami bath.
Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath extended his congratulations to all devotees who took the holy dip at the Sangam on the occasion of Basant Panchami. In a post on the social media platform X, the Chief Minister wrote:
“Hearty congratulations to all the devotees who were fortunate to take the holy dip at the Triveni in Prayagraj, on the auspicious occasion of Basant Panchami. May this ‘Astha Ki Dubki’ at the sacred Sangam bring auspiciousness and fulfillment to all. This is my prayer to Maa Ganga.”
