New Delhi, Sept 2026 : India on Wednesday summoned the Charge d’Affaires of the Pakistan High Commission and lodged a strong protest over the conduct of a Pakistani naval unit that resulted in a collision with an Indian Navy vessel in international waters.
The Pakistani diplomat was called to the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) in New Delhi, where India conveyed its strong objection to what it described as the “unacceptable and unprofessional” conduct of Pakistani naval personnel during the incident.
According to the MEA, the collision occurred after what it termed an “inappropriate and unprofessional” manoeuvre by the Pakistani side. While the incident did not result in any major damage, its occurrence involving naval units of the two neighbouring countries raised concerns within India’s security establishment.
In a statement, the MEA said, “The Charge d'Affaires of the High Commission for the Islamic Republic of Pakistan in New Delhi was summoned to the Ministry of External Affairs today and a strong protest was lodged with him over the unacceptable and unprofessional conduct of Pakistani naval units at sea that led to a collision with a unit of the Indian Navy.”
The ministry said the incident took place in international waters and did not cause significant damage. However, it noted that the conduct of the Pakistani naval unit was in direct contravention of Article 10 of the Agreement between India and Pakistan on Advance Notice on Military Exercises, Manoeuvres and Troops Movements, signed in April 1991.
The agreement is intended to provide mechanisms for greater transparency and communication concerning military activities between the two countries.
The MEA said the Pakistani Charge d’Affaires was instructed to convey India’s concerns to the relevant authorities in Pakistan. It stressed that military units on both sides must exercise due caution and adhere to the provisions of bilateral agreements to avoid similar incidents in the future.
“The Charge d'Affaires of Pakistan was advised to convey to the concerned Pakistani authorities the need for all military units to observe due care and respect the provisions of the relevant agreements between the two sides in order to prevent any repeat of such incidents,” the ministry said.
India also initiated a diplomatic response through its mission in Islamabad. The MEA said the Charge d’Affaires of India in Islamabad had been instructed to lodge a similar protest with Pakistan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
The incident comes against the backdrop of heightened sensitivity surrounding military activities between India and Pakistan. The Indian government’s protest underscores the importance New Delhi places on adherence to established bilateral mechanisms and professional conduct during military operations at sea.
