BJP’s Nitin Nabin Targets Rahul Gandhi, Predicts Massive Turnout in Bengal Polls

Kolkata, April 2026: Nitin Nabin on Sunday launched a sharp political attack on Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, describing him as a “part-time politician” who appears before the public only during election periods.

Nabin made the remarks while participating in a roadshow in Shantipur, located in West Bengal’s Nadia district, ahead of the crucial second phase of the Assembly elections scheduled for April 29. Addressing the media during the event, he questioned Gandhi’s political engagement, asking whether the Congress MP had ever been seen actively participating in public movements or consistently raising key issues.

Alleging a lack of sustained involvement, the BJP leader claimed that Gandhi’s public appearances are largely limited to election campaigns. “The people of Bengal have nothing to do with such part-time politicians,” Nabin said, asserting that voters are more focused on leaders who maintain a continuous connection with the public.

He further speculated on potential political alignments, stating that Gandhi might soon be seen alongside West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, despite the apparent strain within the opposition bloc. Nabin claimed that the opposition alliance has effectively broken down, while reiterating that the Bharatiya Janata Party is contesting independently without any alliances.

Nabin’s comments came in response to recent remarks by Gandhi, who, during a rally in Sreerampore, criticised both Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Mamata Banerjee. Gandhi had described the two leaders as “two sides of the same coin,” alleging that neither is genuinely concerned about the aspirations of the common people.

The Congress leader also accused the Prime Minister and the West Bengal Chief Minister of having a tacit understanding, claiming that this alleged arrangement had resulted in no cases being filed against Banerjee.

Turning his focus back to the state government, Nabin accused Banerjee of creating an atmosphere of fear in West Bengal. He asserted that the BJP is fighting to restore confidence among citizens and bring about a political shift in the state.

Referring to the voter turnout in the first phase of polling held on April 23, Nabin expressed confidence that the second phase would witness even higher participation. He predicted that voters would come out in large numbers on April 29 and extend strong support to the BJP.

Emphasising the party’s outlook, Nabin said that under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the people of West Bengal are ready to move from what he described as an environment of fear and uncertainty toward one of hope, stability and development.
