Rashid Spins Gujarat Titans to Crushing 77-Run Win Over Rajasthan Royals

Score: Gujarat Titans 229/4 beat Rajasthan Royals 152 all out by 77 runs

Jaipur, May 2026 : Gujarat Titans delivered a dominant all-round display to register a comprehensive 77-run victory over Rajasthan Royals in their IPL 2026 clash at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium on Saturday. After posting a formidable total of 229/4, Gujarat’s bowlers, led by Rashid Khan, dismantled Rajasthan’s batting line-up to bowl the hosts out for 152 in just 16.3 overs.

The match saw dramatic swings in momentum, particularly during Rajasthan’s explosive start to the chase, but Gujarat’s disciplined spin attack eventually turned the contest decisively in the visitors’ favour.

The foundation for Gujarat Titans’ imposing total was laid by captain Shubman Gill and opener Sai Sudharsan, who once again produced a superb opening partnership.

Batting on a fresh Jaipur wicket that offered good pace and bounce, both batters attacked confidently from the outset. Rajasthan’s pace attack, led by Jofra Archer and Tushar Deshpande, struggled to maintain consistent lines and lengths, allowing the Gujarat openers to dominate the powerplay.

Sudharsan looked particularly fluent square of the wicket, punishing anything short or wide with crisp strokeplay. Gill, meanwhile, combined elegance with authority in another composed captain’s innings.

The duo ensured Gujarat raced ahead during the powerplay and continued to accelerate through the middle overs. Their aggressive yet controlled batting kept Rajasthan under pressure throughout the innings.

Sudharsan eventually departed for a brilliant 55 off 36 deliveries after adding 108 runs for the opening wicket with Gill. Despite the breakthrough, Gujarat never lost momentum.

Gill continued to anchor the innings superbly and looked set for a century before falling for a magnificent 84 off just 44 balls, an innings decorated with nine boundaries and three sixes.

Late cameos from Washington Sundar and Rahul Tewatia provided the finishing flourish. Washington smashed an unbeaten 37 from 20 balls, while Tewatia struck two sixes in the final over as Gujarat crossed the 225-run mark comfortably.

Chasing a daunting target of 230, Rajasthan Royals responded with fearless aggression. Teenage opener Vaibhav Sooryavanshi electrified the Jaipur crowd by launching Mohammed Siraj for a six in the opening over and continued his attacking approach against Kagiso Rabada.

The young left-hander played a breathtaking knock of 36 from only 16 balls, smashing three fours and three sixes in a fearless display of strokeplay.

Although stand-in skipper Yashasvi Jaiswal fell cheaply for three runs, Rajasthan maintained the momentum through Dhruv Jurel, who unleashed a brutal assault on Siraj in the fifth over, smashing 22 runs with three towering sixes and a boundary.

At 78/3 after six overs, Rajasthan still appeared very much in the chase despite losing wickets. The required run rate remained manageable, and the momentum briefly favoured the hosts.

However, Gujarat’s introduction of spin changed the game completely.

Sai Kishore slowed the scoring with clever variations before Rashid Khan produced the decisive breakthrough. The Afghan spinner dismissed the dangerous Jurel with a sharp googly and then removed Donovan Ferreira just two balls later.

From that point onward, Rajasthan’s innings collapsed rapidly.

Washington Sundar tightened the pressure from one end while Rashid bowled with increasing control and menace. Shubham Dubey attempted a brief counterattack but was quickly dismissed by Rashid.

Ravindra Jadeja fought hard with a spirited 38 off 25 balls, striking boundaries regularly to keep Rajasthan’s hopes alive momentarily. But the required rate continued to climb sharply as Gujarat’s spinners extracted grip and uneven bounce from the ageing surface.

Rashid eventually ended Jadeja’s resistance through a successful lbw review in the 14th over to complete a superb four-wicket haul and effectively seal the contest.

Fast bowler Jason Holder then wrapped up the tail efficiently by dismissing Archer, Dasun Shanaka and Deshpande to complete a crushing Gujarat victory with 21 balls remaining.

The emphatic win also provided Gujarat Titans with a significant boost to their net run rate, strengthening their position in the race for the IPL playoffs.

Brief Scores: Gujarat Titans 229/4 in 20 overs (Shubman Gill 84, Sai Sudharsan 55, Washington Sundar 37 not out; Ravindra Jadeja 1/34) beat Rajasthan Royals 152 all out in 16.3 overs (Ravindra Jadeja 38, Vaibhav Sooryavanshi 36; Rashid Khan 4/33, Jason Holder 3/12) by 77 runs.
