Rajasthan Maintains Zero-Tolerance Policy Against Illegal Liquor; ₹60 Lakh Worth Seized in Kota

Jaipur, May 2026 : The Rajasthan government’s zero-tolerance policy against illegal liquor is yielding strong results under the direction of Excise Commissioner Namit Mehta.

As part of a special enforcement campaign, excise officials seized a large consignment of illegal liquor worth approximately ₹60 lakh from a truck in Kota following a blockade and inspection.

Officials reported that a total of 1,360 cartons containing 65,280 liquor bottles were recovered during the operation.

According to Additional Excise Commissioner (Kota Zone) Naresh Kumar Malav, acting on a tip-off, a truck was intercepted near the New Toll Plaza on National Highway 52 at Gopalpura in Kota on Sunday night. Upon inspection, a large quantity of liquor labeled “For Sale in Chandigarh” was found hidden beneath sacks and inside cartons.

The seized consignment included Rajasthan whisky brand bottles packed in 1,360 cartons, with an estimated market value of around ₹60 lakh.

The operation was carried out under the leadership of Baran District Excise Officer Devendra Giri, Kota District Excise Officer Vivek Sharma, and Assistant Excise Officer Narayan Singh Tomar. The team included excise inspectors Chetan, Pradeep Meena, PO Pramod Singh, Hansraj Meena, and Prithviraj Singh Meena along with supporting staff.

The Excise Department reiterated that the state government has adopted a strict zero-tolerance approach towards illegal liquor smuggling, production, and sale.

Excise Commissioner Namit Mehta has directed all officials to take stringent and effective action against illicit liquor trade across the state. During a recent video conference review of the special enforcement drive, he stated that in districts where adequate action has not been taken, the campaign will be intensified further.

He also warned that strict accountability will be fixed on officials failing to take effective action against illegal liquor activities, including inter-state smuggling and unauthorized production and distribution.

The department continues to strengthen surveillance and enforcement measures to curb illegal liquor networks across Rajasthan.
