104 Lakh MT Wheat Procured Against 100-Lakh-MT Target: Food Minister Shri Rajput
Bhopal, May 2026 : Under the guidance of Chief Minister Dr. Mohan Yadav, more than 104 lakh 22 thousand metric tonnes of wheat have been procured in the state against the target of 100 lakh metric tonnes. Madhya Pradesh was initially assigned a target of 78 lakh metric tonnes for wheat procurement, but through the efforts of Chief Minister Dr. Yadav, the Central Government enhanced the target to 100 lakh metric tonnes. Food, Civil Supplies and Consumer Protection Minister Shri Govind Singh Rajput informed that Madhya Pradesh ranks first in the country in procurement of wheat at Minimum Support Price (MSP) from 13 lakh 41 thousand 266 farmers. The state stands second after Punjab in overall wheat procurement. Excluding the Covid-19 period, this year has recorded the highest wheat procurement at MSP in the past 10 years.
Continuous Monitoring Ensured Smooth Procurement Operations
Continuous monitoring of wheat procurement operations was carried out across the state. Chief Minister Dr. Yadav himself conducted surprise inspections of procurement centres and reviewed weighing arrangements, availability of gunny bags and essential facilities for farmers. He also interacted with farmers to obtain feedback regarding wheat procurement and payment processes. In the interest of farmers, the procurement period for those who had already booked slots was extended from 23 May to 28 May.
More than ₹23,708.13 Cr Paid to Farmers
An amount exceeding ₹23,708.13 crore has already been paid to farmers for the procured wheat. Out of the total procured wheat, 96 lakh 52 thousand 957 metric tonnes have already been transported, accounting for 93 per cent of the total procurement.
The number of weighing machines at each procurement centre was increased from four to six, and districts were authorised to add more machines as required. For farmers’ convenience, the timing for generating weighing slips was extended from 6 PM to 10 PM, while bill issuance was permitted till midnight. Wheat procurement was carried out six days a week.
Facilities such as drinking water, shaded seating arrangements, and other basic amenities were provided for farmers at procurement centres. Wheat was procured from farmers at the MSP of ₹2,585 per quintal along with a state government bonus of ₹40 per quintal, taking the total procurement rate to ₹2,625 per quintal. Adequate arrangements were also made for the storage of procured wheat.
To ensure timely weighing of farmers’ produce, procurement centres were equipped with sufficient gunny bags, weighing machines, labourers, sewing machines, computers, quality-testing equipment and cleaning facilities such as fans and sieves.
Division-wise Procurement
Wheat procurement in various divisions was as follows: Rewa Division – 6 lakh 15 thousand 851 metric tonnes, Jabalpur – 12 lakh 73 thousand 667 metric tonnes, Shahdol – 70 thousand 666 metric tonnes, Sagar – 8 lakh 56 thousand 968 metric tonnes, Bhopal – 28 lakh 47 thousand 284 metric tonnes, Narmadapuram – 9 lakh 22 thousand 508 metric tonnes, Ujjain – 22 lakh 84 thousand 47 metric tonnes, Indore – 8 lakh 62 thousand 719 metric tonnes, Gwalior – 4 lakh 36 thousand 805 metric tonnes and Chambal Division – 2 lakh 40 thousand 581 metric tonnes.
