Sooryavanshi’s 96, Jadeja’s 45 and Ferreira’s late fireworks power RR to 214/6 against Gujarat Titans in Qualifier 2

New Chandigarh, May 2026 : Rajasthan Royals produced a commanding batting display led by Vaibhav Sooryavanshi’s composed 96, Ravindra Jadeja’s impactful 45, and Donovan Ferreira’s explosive unbeaten 38 off 11 balls to reach a strong 214/6 in 20 overs against Gujarat Titans in Qualifier 2 of the IPL 2026 at the Maharaja Yadavindra Singh International Cricket Stadium on Friday.

On a surface offering uneven bounce and varying pace, Rajasthan Royals had a shaky start after being asked to bat first. However, the middle-order resilience and a blistering finish ensured they ended with a daunting total, putting Gujarat Titans under pressure in a high-stakes knockout clash.

Rajasthan Royals innings scorecard

Rajasthan Royals: 214/6 (20 overs)
Vaibhav Sooryavanshi 96 (47), Ravindra Jadeja 45* (35), Donovan Ferreira 38* (11)
Jason Holder 2-27, Kagiso Rabada 2-45, Mohammed Siraj 1-32, Prasidh Krishna 1-41

Early blows and shaky start

RR were rocked early as Mohammed Siraj struck in the very first over, removing Yashasvi Jaiswal cheaply. Kagiso Rabada then compounded the damage by dismissing Dhruv Jurel soon after, leaving Rajasthan reeling at 9/2.

At that stage, Gujarat Titans had firm control, exploiting the two-paced nature of the pitch with disciplined new-ball bowling and sharp lengths.

Jadeja promotes himself, Sooryavanshi anchors recovery

In a tactical move, Ravindra Jadeja walked in early and immediately changed the tempo. He counter-attacked Siraj with crisp boundaries and a six, stabilising the innings alongside the young Vaibhav Sooryavanshi.

Sooryavanshi, initially troubled by bounce and timing issues, slowly settled into rhythm. A towering 91-metre six off Rabada signalled his intent, as the duo rebuilt the innings with controlled aggression.

However, Jadeja’s momentum was briefly halted when he retired hurt due to an elbow concern after making a fluent 45 off 35 deliveries. Despite this setback, RR had already regained stability.

Sooryavanshi takes charge with maturity beyond his years

At 9/2, Rajasthan still needed a defining innings, and Sooryavanshi delivered just that. The teenager mixed caution with calculated aggression, showing remarkable maturity for his age.

He brought up his half-century in 31 balls—his slowest of the season—but what followed was a rapid acceleration. In the next phase, he scored 46 runs in just 17 deliveries, dismantling the Titans’ attack with powerful strokes all around the ground.

A dropped chance on 46 by B. Sai Sudharsan proved costly for Gujarat Titans as Sooryavanshi capitalised ruthlessly. He punished Washington Sundar with two consecutive sixes in the 17th over and looked set for another IPL century before falling for a well-made 96, mistiming a lofted shot to third man off Rabada.

His innings was not just about power but control—rotating strike, picking gaps, and adjusting to match conditions effectively.

Middle-order collapse and Gujarat fightback

After Sooryavanshi’s dominance, Rajasthan briefly stumbled. Rashid Khan’s introduction backfired initially as Riyan Parag and Sooryavanshi had taken him for 18 runs in an over earlier, but Gujarat bounced back through Jason Holder.

Holder struck twice in quick succession, removing Parag and Dasun Shanaka to halt RR’s momentum. Prasidh Krishna then dismissed Jofra Archer, reducing Rajasthan to 120/5 and bringing Gujarat firmly back into the contest.

Ferreira’s explosive finish changes the game

Just when Gujarat Titans looked to restrict the total under 200, Donovan Ferreira produced a stunning late assault. He smashed Prasidh Krishna for two boundaries before unleashing carnage against Rashid Khan in the final over.

Ferreira hammered four consecutive sixes, including a stylish inside-out loft over extra cover and a powerful slog sweep over mid-wicket. His unbeaten 38 off just 11 balls lifted RR well past the 210-mark and shifted momentum firmly back to Rajasthan.

Match context

With this commanding total of 214/6, Rajasthan Royals have set up a highly competitive target in a crucial knockout clash. The winner of this match will face Royal Challengers Bengaluru in the IPL 2026 final.
