Revanth Reddy Cracks Down on Rain Chaos, Warns Officials of Strict Action Over Traffic Disruptions

Hyderabad, June 2026 : Taking strong exception to the traffic chaos witnessed across Hyderabad during recent rains, Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy on Sunday warned officials of strict action if similar disruptions recur during the monsoon season.

Chairing a high-level review meeting on monsoon preparedness with officials from multiple departments, the Chief Minister directed authorities to remain on high alert and ensure that citizens do not face inconvenience during heavy rainfall. He made it clear that negligence at any level would not be tolerated.

Revanth Reddy particularly referred to the severe traffic congestion reported in several parts of Hyderabad, including Cyberabad, following the rains on June 9. Expressing displeasure over the situation, he observed that officials had failed to act despite prior warnings from the Meteorological Department.

The Chief Minister recalled that he had personally conducted a review meeting on June 1 and issued detailed instructions on rain preparedness. However, he said the recent disruptions indicated a lack of coordination and alertness among civic and police authorities.

“Everyone, from constables to the Police Commissioner, should be on the roads during heavy rains. If necessary, I too will come out onto the streets,” he said, underlining the seriousness with which the government views public inconvenience.

He instructed Chief Secretary Ramakrishna Rao and Director General of Police (DGP) C.V. Anand to conduct a detailed analysis of the June 9 incident and initiate action against officials found responsible for lapses. The Chief Minister warned that strict measures would be taken if such situations recur.

Emphasising the importance of preparedness, Revanth Reddy directed officials to proactively respond to weather forecasts and ensure the deployment of personnel from Municipal Administration, HYDRAA, Traffic Police, Water Board and civil police departments during periods of rainfall.

He stressed that traffic management should become a top priority during the monsoon season and directed the DGP to immediately fill vacancies in the traffic department. The Chief Minister also stated that issues arising due to human error would not be accepted under any circumstances.

Officials were instructed to prepare comprehensive action plans based on data relating to waterlogging points, accident-prone areas and locations vulnerable to traffic congestion during rains. The government, he said, must adopt a preventive rather than reactive approach.

The Chief Minister also expressed concern over disruptions in power supply caused by falling trees during recent rains. He ordered the Electricity Department to restore power immediately in affected areas and deploy mobile transformers wherever required. All electricity personnel have been directed to remain in the field throughout the monsoon.

Turning to irrigation infrastructure, Revanth Reddy instructed officials to ensure robust safety measures at all projects across the state. He directed engineers to strictly adhere to operational manuals and remain stationed at project sites during the rainy season.

The Irrigation Secretary was asked to take stringent action against any engineer leaving a project site without prior approval from higher authorities. Additionally, Principal Secretary (Finance) Sandeep Kumar Sultania was instructed to immediately release funds required for the repair and maintenance of project gates.

The review meeting was attended by Rajya Sabha member Vem Narender Reddy, Government Advisor Sudarshan Reddy, Chief Secretary Ramakrishna Rao, DGP C.V. Anand and senior officials from the Irrigation, Municipal Administration, Health, Police, Agriculture and Meteorological departments.

With the monsoon intensifying, the state government has signalled a zero-tolerance approach towards administrative lapses, aiming to ensure smooth traffic flow, uninterrupted power supply and public safety during the rainy season.
