Chief Minister Visits Royal School of Mines, Imperial College London
Engages with Experts on Critical Minerals, Advanced Research, and Clean Energy
London/Ranchi: During his visit to London, Chief Minister Hemant Soren visited the Royal School of Mines, Imperial College London as part of an international dialogue on critical minerals, advanced mineral processing, and clean energy.

On this occasion, the Chief Minister toured the institution’s key laboratories and interacted with faculty and researchers engaged in studies related to critical minerals, advanced materials, nuclear research, and cutting-edge technologies.
Professor Stephen Nithcrlang, Maka Wenman, Maka Septon, and Prof. Mukesh Kumar along with Dr. Surya Kumar explained ongoing research in mineral processing, materials science, nuclear engineering, and advanced sensor technologies. Faculty members highlighted how Imperial College London integrates geo-science, materials engineering, computational modeling, and nuclear studies to address real-world challenges in mining, clean energy, and industrial decarbonization.

Laboratory demonstrations included mineral identification, improved processing techniques, modeling, and emerging analytical technologies. The discussions also highlighted how early-stage research can be translated into industrial applications, emphasizing the potential for states rich in resources like Jharkhand to move beyond mere extraction toward value addition.
Through this visit, Jharkhand reaffirmed its intent to collaborate with leading global institutions in academic training, research, and technological innovation. Areas of cooperation could include technical development, skill enhancement, and institutional capacity building.
The Chief Minister and his delegation discussed with Imperial College the possibility of establishing a Centre of Excellence in Critical Minerals and Mining Sciences in Jharkhand, marking a significant step toward developing the state as an emerging hub for mineral research, advanced innovation, and sustainable industrial technology.
This visit is considered a milestone for Jharkhand’s ambition to position itself as a leading center for mineral research, advanced innovation, and sustainable industrial development.
