Revanth Reddy Urges Voters to Reject Hate Politics Ahead of Telangana Municipal Polls

Hyderabad, Feb 2026 : Revanth Reddy Urges Voters to Reject Hate Politics Ahead of Telangana Municipal Polls Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy on Monday made a strong appeal to voters to reject what he described as hate-driven and divisive politics in the upcoming municipal elections scheduled for February 11. Addressing a press conference in Hyderabad, the Chief Minister launched a sharp attack on the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), accusing it of exploiting communal divisions and misleading voters by shifting focus away from local governance issues.

Revanth Reddy alleged that the BJP has made communal polarisation its primary election strategy and is repeatedly invoking AIMIM president Asaduddin Owaisi as a “political scarecrow” to mobilise votes. “They claim to chant the name of Lord Ram, but every single day they invoke Asaduddin Owaisi. Their lifeline is Owaisi,” the Chief Minister remarked, accusing the BJP of being obsessed with the AIMIM leader rather than addressing civic concerns.

Questioning the BJP’s narrative, Revanth Reddy asked why the party, despite being in power at the Centre for over a decade, failed to “control” Owaisi if it genuinely viewed him as a threat. “AIMIM is a political party in a democracy. It has contested elections in Gujarat, Uttar Pradesh, Maharashtra and other states. How long will you seek votes by portraying them as a ghost?” he asked, terming the BJP’s approach as proof of its “political bankruptcy.”

The Chief Minister also criticised BJP state president Nitin Nabin for seeking votes in the name of Prime Minister Narendra Modi during a recent election rally in Mahabubnagar. Revanth Reddy recalled that Modi, during his tenure as Gujarat Chief Minister, had campaigned in Mahabubnagar and promised national project status to the Palamuru–Rangareddy lift irrigation scheme. “Even after becoming Prime Minister three times, he has not fulfilled that promise,” he said.

Taking exception to BJP leaders raising Modi slogans in municipal election campaigns, Revanth Reddy questioned their relevance. “What does Modi have to do with local body elections?” he asked, asserting that civic polls should focus on issues such as sanitation, drinking water, roads and urban infrastructure.

He further accused the BJP-led Central government of neglecting Telangana over the past 12 years. “Not a single major project has been approved for Telangana, yet they ask people to vote by showing Modi’s face,” he said. Revanth Reddy alleged that the Centre cancelled the Information Technology Investment Region (ITIR) project sanctioned for Telangana and exerted pressure to shift a proposed semiconductor project from Telangana to Andhra Pradesh.

Highlighting what he called discrimination against southern states, the Chief Minister cited figures to argue that Telangana and other southern states receive disproportionately lower central funds compared to northern states. “For every rupee Telangana contributes in taxes, it gets only 42 paise back. Karnataka gets 16 paise, Tamil Nadu 26 paise, and Kerala 49 paise. But Bihar receives Rs 6.16 for every rupee it gives, Madhya Pradesh Rs 2.09, and Uttar Pradesh Rs 2.90,” he claimed.

Revanth Reddy questioned why Union Ministers from Telangana, G. Kishan Reddy and Bandi Sanjay Kumar, had remained silent on what he described as financial injustice to the state. He also accused the Centre of shielding former Special Intelligence Bureau (SIB) chief Prabhakar Rao, a key accused in the alleged phone-tapping case, by failing to bring him back to India for nearly 20 months. “It was only after the Supreme Court’s intervention that Prabhakar Rao was brought back from the United States,” he said.

The Chief Minister urged voters to reject not only the BJP but also the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS), accusing the party of failing to deliver during its decade-long rule in the state. He criticised BRS president and former Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao (KCR) for what he described as complete inaction as Leader of the Opposition. “For the past 25 to 26 months, he has drawn salary and enjoyed Cabinet-rank privileges, but has not once come to the Assembly to raise a public issue,” Revanth Reddy alleged.

He further claimed that BRS leaders who attend Assembly sessions only attempt to disrupt proceedings rather than engage in meaningful debate. In a controversial remark, Revanth Reddy said the public statements of some BRS leaders raise questions about their mental state. “Sometimes I feel the EAGLE team should conduct narco analysis on them,” he said.

Calling for a decisive mandate, Revanth Reddy appealed to voters to choose development, accountability and harmony over what he termed politics of hatred and deception.
