Iran Announces End to Military Operations Against Israel, Warns of Stronger Response to Future Attacks
Tehran, June 2026 : Iran’s principal military command, the Khatam al-Anbiya Central Headquarters, announced on Monday that the country’s armed forces had ceased their military operations against Israel, while warning that any future Israeli actions against Iran or its regional allies would be met with a far more severe response.
In an official statement carried by Iran’s semi-official media outlets, the headquarters declared that the latest phase of military operations had concluded. However, it cautioned that any renewed Israeli “aggression” or hostile activities, including actions targeting southern Lebanon, would provoke what it described as a stronger and more crushing retaliation from Iranian forces.
The announcement came amid heightened tensions in the region following several days of military exchanges involving Iran, Israel, and allied groups in Lebanon.
Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian emphasized that Tehran remained committed both to defending its interests and pursuing diplomatic engagement. In a message posted on social media, the President said Iran would continue to safeguard national security while also keeping diplomatic channels open.
“Our priority is national security and the peace of our people. We will defend the rights of the nation with authority and will not retreat in the face of any threat,” he stated, adding that diplomacy and defence remain complementary pillars of Iran’s national strategy.
According to the military headquarters, the operations were launched in response to Israeli military actions in southern Lebanon and Beirut’s southern suburbs, areas that have witnessed recurring hostilities involving Israel and the Lebanese group Hezbollah. Iranian officials argued that their actions were intended as support for the Lebanese population affected by those attacks.
The statement also accused the United States of supporting Israeli military operations in the region and claimed that Israel should have understood the consequences of confronting Iran following Tehran’s retaliatory strikes.
Meanwhile, reports in Israeli media suggested that Israel suspended its strikes against Iran following a request from U.S. President Donald Trump. A senior Israeli official was quoted as saying that Israel had also warned it could target Beirut’s southern suburbs if Hezbollah continued launching attacks on Israeli communities.
The escalation followed missile launches by Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps. On Sunday, the IRGC announced that its aerospace division had fired ballistic missiles at the Ramat David Air Base in northern Israel. The strikes were described as retaliation for what Iran termed Israel’s extensive military actions in southern Lebanon.
Iranian forces reportedly continued their attacks on Monday, targeting the Nevatim Air Base and Tel Nof Air Base, along with certain industrial facilities in Israel.
In response, the Israeli military carried out airstrikes against multiple locations inside Iran. Among the reported targets was a petrochemical facility in the southwestern Iranian province of Khuzestan.
Adding to the tense atmosphere, an Iranian military source was quoted by local media as saying that Iran was prepared for a prolonged confrontation if necessary and remained ready to respond to threats against its interests and allies.
While the announcement of the cessation of operations may signal a temporary de-escalation, the strong warnings issued by both sides indicate that tensions in the region remain high, with the risk of renewed confrontation continuing to concern observers across the Middle East.
