70,000 Government Jobs to Be Filled Soon in Maharashtra; Recruitment to Follow a New System – CM Devendra Fadnavis
Mumbai, Feb 2026 : A new recruitment process will soon be implemented in Maharashtra to fill government vacancies, with more than 70,000 posts to be filled in a phased manner. Of these, around 50,000 posts will be filled through the Maharashtra Public Service Commission (MPSC), while 20,000 posts will be recruited through agencies outside the MPSC. Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis has directed that recruitment decisions should be based on required skills, service entry norms, eligibility criteria and the nature of work.
A meeting to review amendments to the state’s service recruitment rules was held at Sahyadri Guest House under the chairmanship of Chief Minister Fadnavis. The meeting was attended by Chief Secretary Rajesh Agrawal, along with all Additional Chief Secretaries, Principal Secretaries and Secretaries from various departments.
The Chief Minister emphasised the need to fast-track comprehensive administrative reforms across key departments of the state government. Priority will be given to manpower management and ensuring transparency in the recruitment process. He also said that decisions related to amendments in the state’s service recruitment rules would be taken soon at a Cabinet meeting.
CM Fadnavis noted that the General Administration Department is not merely a formal body but plays a crucial role in shaping the entire recruitment system of the state. Filling 70,000 vacancies across various departments will significantly enhance administrative efficiency. He recalled that Maharashtra’s manpower management model, presented at a Chief Ministers’ conference in the presence of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, was widely appreciated. The Prime Minister had also advised other states to adopt this reform model, highlighting Maharashtra’s leadership in administrative reforms.
To avoid unnecessary paperwork, long queues and delays in the recruitment process, the Chief Minister stressed the development of an online and digital verification system. He said that if sensitive documents like passports can be verified online, the same model can be extended to other processes as well.
For this purpose, he instructed all departments to make suitable arrangements to provide certificates through DigiLocker and to adopt blockchain-based systems where necessary. He underlined that the entire recruitment process must be transparent and credible to ensure that there is no suspicion, bias or injustice. At the same time, the system should be clean, efficient and fast so that young applicants do not harbour doubts or apprehensions.
CM Fadnavis expressed confidence that a new model of governance reform would emerge in Maharashtra within the next year. He said the role of every department would be vital in this transformation and urged all departments to work collectively, without lagging behind, to ensure the success of these administrative reforms.
