Dugli Van Dhan Vikas Kendra Carves an Identity with Aloe Vera–Based Personal Care ProductsTribal women become self-reliant
Raipur, February 2026: The Van Dhan Vikas Kendra (VDVK) established in village Dugli of Dhamtari district under the Pradhan Mantri Van Dhan Janjatiya Vikas Mission has emerged as a successful model of women empowerment and rural self-reliance. Operated under the guidance of the Chhattisgarh State Minor Forest Produce Federation, the centre is providing employment and a dignified income to tribal women through value addition of forest produce.
The Dugli Van Dhan Vikas Kendra has gained recognition particularly for its aloe vera–based personal care products. Functioning as a federation of self-help groups, one core group manages overall operations, while other groups support production activities as per requirements and orders. Active participation of women at the centre has enabled them to become economically stronger and self-dependent.
At present, around 25 different types of medicinal and food products are being manufactured at the centre. These include herbal powders, health drinks and other herbal products. All items are produced in compliance with prescribed quality and safety standards and have obtained the necessary licences from the AYUSH and Food Safety departments.
Wide market access through online platforms
Personal care products made especially from aloe vera—such as soaps, creams, body wash and hand wash—have established a distinct identity in the market. The demand for these products is steadily increasing, leading to a rise in the income of the women associated with the centre. The Chhattisgarh State Minor Forest Produce Federation has provided women with training, machinery support, branding and marketing assistance.
As a result, the products are reaching a wide market through state-level fairs, departmental networks and online platforms. During the financial year 2024–25, the centre recorded an annual turnover of ₹74,62,156, reflecting its growing success.
Products manufactured under the ‘Chhattisgarh Herbal’ brand are now available at various marts, selected outlets and online platforms, and are being supplied regularly to the AYUSH Department and the Tourism Board.
Realising the dream of self-reliance in rural areas
Today, the Dugli Van Dhan Vikas Kendra is not just a production unit but an inspiring story of women empowerment, entrepreneurship and social transformation. It clearly demonstrates that with effective implementation of government schemes and collective efforts, the dream of self-reliance in rural areas can indeed be realised.
