In A New American Record 26 Million People Were Cross Examined With Nancy Guthrie’s DNA.
Pima County; February 2026: The Pima County Sheriff’s Department responsible for the investigation of Nancy Guthrie’s missing case said that 26 million DNA samples collected were submitted to a lab in Florida and to the national DNA database CODIS on Tuesday (17th February 2026) morning. The sheriff’s department said there were no DNA hits in CODIS.
“At this point, there have been no confirmed CODIS matches in this investigation”, the sheriff’s department informed.
The National DNA Index (NDIS) has over 19.2 million offender profiles, 6.1 million arrestee profiles and 1.4 million forensic profiles as of November 2025, according to the Federal Bureau Of Investigation (FBI). As of November, CODIS has produced over 781,492 hits and assisted in more than 758,449 investigations, according to the FBI.
The Case:
Nancy Guthrie, the 84-year-old mother of Today show co-host Savannah Guthrie, has been missing for over two weeks, and her disappearance continues to receive significant public attention. Nancy was last seen at her home in the Catalina Foothills neighborhood of Tucson, Arizona, on January 31st. During the course of investigations, the Pima County Sheriffs office have detected that alleged ransom notes were sent to multiple news outlets after her disappearance.
The Pima County Sheriff, Chris Nanos, has said the matter is being treated as a criminal investigation. The FBI and other law enforcement agencies are assisting in the case. Authorities have said that she was likely taken from her Tucson‑area home against her will on the night of 31st January. It’s been years since a high-profile abduction case with an alleged ransom demand has captured the nation’s attention in this way.
The FBI said on Sunday that the gloves, found approximately 02 miles away from Nancy’s home in a field near the side of the road, were packaged up by the Pima County Sheriff’s Department and sent overnight on Thursday (12th February 2026). The gloves arrived at a private lab in Florida on Friday (13th February 2026) the FBI said.
The FBI said it received results on Saturday and was awaiting quality control and official confirmation before putting the unknown male profile into CODIS, the national database unique to the bureau. The investigating federal agency has further asserted that the investigators collected approximately 16 pairs of gloves in various areas near the house, and most of them were searchers’ gloves that they discarded while searching the area. “The one with the DNA profile recovered is different and appears to match the gloves of the subject in the surveillance video”, the FBI said. However, the said claim of the FBI can only be vetted after the culprit is nabbed.
Nanos released a statement on Monday saying the Guthrie family, including all siblings and spouses, has been cleared as possible suspects in this case.
The FBI shared new identifying details about a person of interest on Thursday after law enforcement released video footage of a masked individual approaching the 84-year-old’s front door around the time of her disappearance. The man is described as about 5’9″ or 5’10” with an average build. In the footage released by the Pima County Sheriff’s Department and FBI, the man is seen wearing a black, 25 litre “Ozark Trail Hiker Pack” backpack.
The clothing seen in the video may have been purchased from Walmart but is not exclusively available at Walmart, the sheriff’s department said. “This remains a possibility only. The investigation is ongoing, and information may change as new details develop”, the Pima County Sheriff’s Department said.
The investigation further revealed that the octogenarian victim Nancy uses a pacemaker. Nanos previously said at a press conference that Nancy’s pacemaker app showed that it had disconnected from her phone at approximately 02:28 hours on February 01st.
In a latest appeal Savannah Guthrie, in a video posted on Instagram has said, “It’s been two weeks since our mom was taken, and I just wanted to come on and say that we still have hope and we still believe”.
Pima County Sheriff Chris Nanos, in a statement has reiterated: “The family has been nothing but cooperative and gracious and are victims in this case. To suggest otherwise is not only wrong, it is cruel. The Guthrie family are victims plain and simple”.
