DMK Ready to Face Any Central Probe, Says CM M. K. Stalin; Accuses BJP of Misusing Agencies
Chennai, Feb 2026 : DMK President and Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M. K. Stalin on Monday asserted that his party was fully prepared to face any action by central investigating agencies, alleging that the BJP was misusing institutions such as the Enforcement Directorate (ED), the Income Tax (I-T) Department, and the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) for political ends.
Addressing a public programme in Chennai, Stalin accused the BJP of indulging in what he described as “political hunting” by deploying central agencies against opposition parties. He said such actions reflected political insecurity rather than a genuine commitment to fighting corruption.
“If the BJP brings in its forces in the form of the ED, I-T, and CBI, we are very well prepared to face them,” the Chief Minister said. He added that the repeated use of investigative agencies against opposition leaders showed the ruling party’s desperation to silence dissent.
Taking aim at the National Democratic Alliance, Stalin alleged that the NDA was “an alliance formed by threatening the corrupt.” Referring to former ministers from the AIADMK regime, he claimed that several of them had faced raids and that nearly 10 leaders still had cases pending with the Directorate of Vigilance and Anti-Corruption (DVAC).
“But for the sake of political convenience and alliance compulsions, they are being protected,” Stalin charged, suggesting selective action against political opponents while allies were spared scrutiny.
The Chief Minister also criticised R. N. Ravi, alleging that the Governor had delayed the registration of FIRs against certain former ministers for a prolonged period. “While action is stalled in such cases, attempts are now being made to intimidate us through central agencies,” he said.
Questioning the effectiveness and intent of the Enforcement Directorate, Stalin asked how many convictions had resulted from the over 8,000 cases registered by the agency across the country. “Those facing corruption charges are aligning with whom?” he asked, adding that the BJP was “cheaply” using investigative agencies while branding its alliance as the NDA.
Looking ahead to the 2026 Tamil Nadu Assembly elections, Stalin acknowledged that a multi-cornered contest was possible but dismissed concerns about its impact on the DMK’s prospects. “There may certainly be a multi-cornered contest, but they are not strong enough,” he said, in an apparent reference to the BJP and other emerging political players.
Responding to questions about Narendra Modi’s recent visits to Tamil Nadu, Stalin said he welcomed them. In a sarcastic remark, he added that the Prime Minister and Union Home Minister Amit Shah should continue visiting the state and that the Governor should not be replaced, calling it a “major campaign” for the DMK.
On suggestions that he should play a larger national role in leading the opposition INDIA bloc, Stalin invoked the legacy of late DMK patriarch M. Karunanidhi. He said he was fully aware of his political stature and responsibilities and would act in accordance with the party’s principles and the larger interests of the opposition.
