Samson’s Blitz Powers India to 253/6 Against England in T20 World Cup Semi-Final

Mumbai, March 2026 : A spectacular batting display led by Sanju Samson helped India post a formidable total of 253/6 against England in the semi-final of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026 at the iconic Wankhede Stadium on Thursday. After a few early setbacks, India’s middle-order batsmen produced a remarkable counterattack, putting England under immense pressure with a daunting target of 254 runs.

The highlight of the innings was a blistering knock from Sanju Samson, who once again demonstrated his exceptional batting ability on the big stage. The wicketkeeper-batter smashed 89 runs off just 42 deliveries, striking 8 boundaries and 7 towering sixes. His aggressive innings not only stabilized the Indian innings after early wickets but also accelerated the run rate significantly during the middle overs. With this performance, Samson equalled the record of Virat Kohli for the highest individual score by an Indian batter in a T20 World Cup knockout match, matching Kohli’s landmark effort from the 2016 edition.

India’s momentum was further strengthened by a powerful cameo from Shivam Dube, who scored a quickfire 43 runs off just 22 balls. Dube’s innings included several clean hits that pushed the total well beyond the 250-run mark. His partnership with Samson proved crucial in shifting the momentum decisively in India’s favour.

Earlier in the innings, Ishan Kishan and Abhishek Sharma also made valuable contributions at the top, ensuring that India maintained a steady scoring rate despite losing wickets at intervals. The batting unit displayed a balanced approach, blending aggressive stroke play with calculated partnerships to build a commanding total.

India eventually finished their innings at 253 for the loss of six wickets, setting England a steep target of 254 runs to reach the final. Cricket experts believe that chasing such a massive total in a high-pressure semi-final will be a challenging task for England, especially against a strong Indian bowling attack.

India’s bowling unit, led by experienced pacers and quality spinners, will now look to defend the total. Fast bowlers like Jasprit Bumrah and Arshdeep Singh, along with spinners such as Varun Chakravarthy and Axar Patel, are expected to play key roles in restricting England’s batting lineup.

The outcome of this high-stakes clash will determine who advances to the final of the T20 World Cup 2026. With India already delivering a dominant performance with the bat, England now face the daunting challenge of chasing down one of the biggest targets ever set in a World Cup knockout match.
