Donald Trump Says Iran Seeking Talks After Heavy Strikes by U.S. and Israel
Washington, March 2026: U.S. President Donald Trump on Thursday claimed that Iran is now seeking negotiations after suffering major military losses, as joint operations by the United States and Israel continue to target Tehran’s missile, drone and naval capabilities.
Speaking during an event at the White House honouring the 2025 champions of Inter Miami CF, Trump said the ongoing military campaign had severely damaged Iran’s defence infrastructure and forced the country to consider negotiations.
According to Trump, Iranian officials have already begun reaching out to explore possible diplomatic options. “They’re calling, they’re saying, ‘How do we make a deal?’” the President said, adding that such efforts had come too late after weeks of escalating hostilities.
The President asserted that the combined military operations of the United States and Israel were progressing faster than anticipated and had already dismantled a significant portion of Iran’s strategic assets. He described the campaign as highly effective, claiming that missile launch systems were being destroyed within minutes of being activated.
Trump said that once Iranian forces launched missiles, their positions were quickly located and neutralised. “As soon as they set off a missile, within four minutes the launcher gets hit,” he stated, suggesting that advanced surveillance and rapid-response capabilities were being used to target the launch infrastructure.
He also claimed that Iran’s naval forces had suffered major losses during the recent strikes. According to Trump, dozens of Iranian vessels had been destroyed in just a few days, severely weakening Tehran’s maritime capabilities in the region.
The President further said that large portions of Iran’s air defence network and aviation capacity had already been dismantled. He asserted that Iran was now struggling to defend its airspace following the destruction of anti-aircraft systems and other defensive infrastructure.
Providing an estimate of the scale of damage, Trump said around 60 per cent of Iran’s missile systems and approximately 64 per cent of its launch infrastructure had been destroyed as a result of the ongoing military campaign.
Despite the escalating conflict, Trump signalled that Washington remained open to a different future for Iran if certain factions within its security establishment broke ranks with the current leadership. He called on members of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, as well as the country’s military and police forces, to lay down their arms.
Trump also urged Iranian diplomats stationed abroad to seek asylum and assist efforts aimed at political change within the country. He said those who cooperated with such efforts would receive immunity and protection.
The President argued that the military operation would ultimately help stabilise the Middle East and reduce long-term volatility in global energy markets. According to him, weakening Iran’s military capability could contribute to improved regional security and greater stability in oil prices and international financial markets.
Trump’s remarks came as the United States and Israel intensified military strikes against Iranian targets, accusing Tehran of supporting militant groups across the region and pursuing nuclear weapons capabilities. The escalating confrontation has heightened tensions across the Middle East, particularly because the region hosts several critical oil shipping routes that play a vital role in global energy supply.
