Jharkhand CM Hemant Soren Hands Over 1,485 Modern Vehicles to Police, Lays Foundation for 12 New Police Stations
Ranchi, March 2026 : In a major step toward strengthening law and order in the state, Hemant Soren on Friday handed over 1,485 modern vehicles to the Jharkhand Police and laid the online foundation stone for 12 new police stations across different districts of the state.
The announcement was made during a programme held at the Jharkhand Legislative Assembly complex in Ranchi. During the ceremony, the Chief Minister pressed a remote button to lay the foundation stones of the new police stations and flagged off the vehicles allotted to the police force. On the occasion, he also distributed appointment letters to candidates selected in various categories of government services.
A Historic Milestone in Police Modernisation

Addressing the gathering, the Chief Minister described the initiative as a historic milestone in the modernization of the police force. He said that for the first time in the 25-year history of Jharkhand, such a large fleet of modern vehicles is being provided to the police at one time.
Soren emphasized that maintaining peace and ensuring law and order—from urban centres to remote rural areas—is the primary responsibility of the police. The addition of these modern vehicles will significantly improve the mobility, response capability and surveillance capacity of the police force.
“With the availability of these vehicles, the police will be able to respond to incidents more quickly and effectively. It will strengthen the monitoring system and help control crime in a timely manner,” he said.
The Chief Minister further stated that the state government is continuously working toward crime control, citizen safety and modernization of the police force. He expressed hope that the new vehicles and police stations would enhance operational efficiency, reduce response time and improve monitoring systems across the state.
He added that with improved surveillance and policing infrastructure, criminals would think several times before committing crimes in the state.
Swift Police Action in Kidnapping Case
Highlighting the efficiency of the police force, the Chief Minister cited a recent incident in which the Jharkhand Police acted swiftly in a kidnapping case. In the Dhurwa police station area, two minor children had been abducted.
Soren said that due to the prompt action and dedicated efforts of the police, the children were quickly rescued and an interstate child kidnapping gang involved in the crime was exposed. Such examples, he said, demonstrate how the police are effectively preventing crime by using modern technology and innovative approaches.
Strong Police, Safe Citizens
The Chief Minister stressed that ensuring law and order is not solely the responsibility of the police; citizens also have an important role to play. He appealed to the public to cooperate with the police in maintaining peace and security.
“Public awareness, timely information and cooperation with the police are essential to curb crime. The stronger the trust, communication and cooperation between citizens and the police, the stronger our law and order system will become,” he said.
He also congratulated candidates who received appointment letters during the programme and urged them to serve the state with dedication, honesty and sensitivity. Addressing police personnel present at the event, he called upon them to prioritize public service and pay special attention to the safety of vulnerable and marginalized communities.
First Phase Distribution of Vehicles
In the first phase, the state government handed over 636 patrol vehicles and 849 two-wheelers to police units across different districts and police stations.
The Jharkhand government has approved a total of 1,255 patrolling vehicles and 1,697 two-wheelers for the police department. Out of these, the first phase includes the distribution of the 1,485 vehicles flagged off during the programme.
These modern vehicles are expected to play a crucial role in patrolling, quick response operations, rural surveillance, monitoring sensitive areas and taking swift action against criminal activities.
Senior Leaders Present at the Event
Several senior leaders and officials attended the programme, including Rabindra Nath Mahato, ministers Radha Krishna Kishore, Sanjay Prasad Yadav, Irfan Ansari, Deepika Pandey Singh and Shilpi Neha Tirkey.
Also present were MLA Kalpana Soren, Chief Secretary Avinash Kumar, Principal Secretary of the Home, Prison and Disaster Management Department Vandana Dadel, and Director General of Police Anuradha Shankar, along with senior police officials and officers from various departments.
The event marked a significant step in strengthening the law enforcement infrastructure of Jharkhand and enhancing public safety across the state.
