Rajasthan CM Directs Strong Drinking Water Management for Summer
Jaipur, March 2026: Rajasthan Chief Minister Bhajanlal Sharma has directed officials to ensure that people do not face any shortage of drinking water during the upcoming summer season. He instructed departmental officials and district collectors to closely monitor water supply in every village and town according to the prepared summer contingency plan.
The Chief Minister issued these directions during a review meeting at the Chief Minister’s Office regarding pre-summer preparedness. He said that in view of the rising temperatures, uninterrupted drinking water supply must be ensured by installing new hand pumps and tube wells, repairing old ones, and fixing damaged pipelines. All such works should be completed before the peak summer period without any delay or negligence.
Drinking Water Complaints to Be Resolved Within 24 Hours
Sharma also directed officials from the Public Health Engineering Department and the electricity department to work in close coordination. He said that complaints related to drinking water received through the government helpline Rajasthan Helpline 181 must be resolved within 24 hours.
He further asked officials to reduce the gap in water supply in areas where water is currently provided once every 48, 72, or 96 hours.
During the meeting, officials informed that contingency plans have already been prepared for rural and urban areas across all 41 districts of the state. District collectors from Bikaner, Jodhpur, Dungarpur, and Udaipur presented their action plans for drinking water supply in canal areas, desert districts, tube-well dependent regions, and tribal and hilly areas respectively.
‘Developed Village–Urban Ward Campaign’ to Begin on March 19
The Chief Minister also announced that the state government will launch the Viksit Gram–Urban Ward Campaign from March 19, coinciding with Rajasthan Day celebrations. The campaign aims to prepare a development master plan at the Gram Panchayat and urban ward levels.
He said that developed villages are the foundation of Developed Rajasthan and Developed India. Through this campaign, a development roadmap based on local aspirations will reach villages and urban wards.
Focus on Local Industries and Planned Development
Sharma stated that the government intends to ensure planned development in villages and city wards by prioritizing infrastructure such as education, healthcare, drinking water, electricity, and roads. He also directed officials to identify local small and cottage industries in rural and urban areas and explore opportunities related to production and processing to boost local employment.
Emphasis on Tree Plantation
The Chief Minister also highlighted the state’s plantation efforts. He said that around 190 million saplings have been planted in Rajasthan over the past two years, and the target for this year is to plant more than 100 million saplings. He instructed officials to prepare plants in nurseries and ensure their timely distribution.
He also directed that tree plantation be carried out in all government offices and that special attention be given not only to planting trees but also to their maintenance. Locations for plantation should be identified in advance, and fruit-bearing trees suitable to local conditions should be planted as they help increase production and conserve water.
The meeting was attended by Public Health Engineering Minister Kanhaiya Lal, Food and Civil Supplies Minister Sumit Godara, Chief Secretary V. Srinivas, and other senior officials. Minister of State for Forest and Environment Sanjay Sharma and several divisional commissioners and district collectors joined the meeting through video conferencing.
