Amit Shah Unveils BJP’s ‘Sankalp Patra’, Signals Aggressive Push for Change in Bengal
New Delhi, April 2026: Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Friday indicated a strong political push by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in West Bengal, asserting that the state is ready for a shift in leadership as he arrived in Kolkata to release the party’s election manifesto, titled ‘Sankalp Patra’.
In a post on X, Shah said that the people of Bengal are “weary” of the ruling Trinamool Congress (TMC) and are now looking for change. He stated that the BJP’s manifesto is aimed at “freeing Bengal from TMC’s reign of terror.” Following the launch, Shah is scheduled to address a public rally in Debra, West Medinipur, and participate in a roadshow in Kharagpur as part of the party’s outreach efforts.
The visit comes at a time when political activity in the state has intensified ahead of crucial elections, with the Bharatiya Janata Party stepping up its campaign against the incumbent government.
According to party sources, the ‘Sankalp Patra’ is expected to focus heavily on allegations of corruption and administrative failures under the TMC regime. The BJP is likely to promise the release of a White Paper detailing what it claims are 15 years of irregularities and misgovernance in the state.
Law and order is also set to be a key campaign theme, with the party planning to highlight a crackdown on alleged mafia networks operating in sectors such as coal, sand, and stone mining.
On the welfare front, the BJP is expected to announce financial assistance measures, including a proposed monthly support of ₹3,000 for beneficiaries of the Lakshmi Bhandar scheme. Additionally, unemployed youth may be offered similar assistance under a proposed ‘Yuva Sathi’ programme.
The manifesto is also likely to emphasise development initiatives, including plans to transform Singur into a major industrial hub. Infrastructure development is expected to feature prominently, with proposals to enhance connectivity between North and South Bengal through expanded road networks and airport infrastructure.
Addressing the concerns of government employees, the BJP is expected to promise clearance of pending Dearness Allowance dues within 45 days if it comes to power.
Party leaders indicated that the manifesto seeks to strike a balance between strong political messaging against the ruling party and a forward-looking development agenda. Reiterating his stance, Shah emphasised that the BJP aims to directly connect with the people of Bengal through extensive public engagement programmes across the state.
