Shatrughan Sinha Slams BJP, Backs TMC Ahead of Bengal Polls

Patna, April 2026 : Veteran Bollywood actor-turned-politician Shatrughan Sinha launched a sharp attack on the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), asserting that its political strategies in West Bengal would not succeed, saying “cholbe na” (won’t work).

Speaking to mediapersons in Patna on Saturday, Sinha referred to a recently viral video and claimed that it carries significant truth and has exposed alleged conspiracies by the BJP.

According to him, Abhishek Banerjee, the General Secretary of the Trinamool Congress (TMC), has through his sharp political acumen exposed what he described as a “₹1,000-crore deal” scandal involving the BJP. He added that the impact of these revelations is now being felt across the country.

Sinha also criticised what he termed the BJP’s “washing machine” approach, alleging that leaders facing corruption charges are inducted into the party and subsequently cleared of all allegations. He cited examples of individuals previously accused in major scams being given prominent roles after joining the BJP, pointing to political developments in Maharashtra as a case in point.

He further questioned whether similar action would be taken against leaders in West Bengal who are facing allegations, raising concerns over what he described as selective accountability.

Praising West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, Sinha described her as an “Iron Lady” and credited her leadership as strong and time-tested. He expressed confidence that the people of the state continue to support her firmly and that the TMC would secure a decisive victory in the upcoming Assembly elections.

Sinha also targeted Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah, alleging that several promises made by them in the past remain unfulfilled. He referred to commitments such as large-scale job creation and financial benefits, claiming that these have now become subjects of public criticism.

Raising the issue of pending funds under the MGNREGA scheme, Sinha alleged that substantial dues meant for beneficiaries in West Bengal have not yet been released by the Central government.

His remarks come amid intensifying political rhetoric ahead of the elections, with major parties continuing to exchange sharp allegations and counter-allegations in West Bengal.
