Nitish Kumar Announces Resignation at Final Bihar Cabinet Meeting

Patna, April 2026 : In a significant political development, the final meeting of the Bihar Cabinet, chaired by Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, concluded on Tuesday at the Chief Minister’s Secretariat, marking the end of the current government’s tenure.

The meeting, widely seen as the last cabinet session under the present administration, was attended by both Deputy Chief Ministers — Samrat Choudhary and Vijay Kumar Sinha — along with ministers from various departments. Despite lasting only about 20 minutes, the meeting carried immense political and emotional significance.

During the session, Nitish Kumar formally informed his cabinet colleagues of his decision to step down as Chief Minister. His announcement sets in motion the constitutional process for the dissolution of the existing government. According to sources, a proposal recommending the dissolution of the Cabinet was presented and received unanimous approval from all members present.

This consensus paves the way for formal procedures to bring the current administration to an end. The brief meeting symbolized not just a procedural step but also the culmination of Nitish Kumar’s long-standing leadership in Bihar politics.

Following the meeting, Agriculture Minister Ram Kripal Yadav described the atmosphere as deeply emotional. He stated that the Chief Minister expressed heartfelt gratitude to all stakeholders, including government officials, ministers, and political colleagues, for their cooperation and support throughout his tenure.

Deputy Chief Ministers Samrat Choudhary and Vijay Kumar Sinha also reflected on the government’s journey during the meeting. While the specifics of their remarks were not disclosed, insiders noted that the tone remained solemn, with members acknowledging the end of an era in Bihar’s governance.

Earlier in the day, Nitish Kumar participated in an event at the Patna High Court premises to mark the birth anniversary of B. R. Ambedkar. He paid floral tributes by garlanding Ambedkar’s statue. The समारोह was attended by several prominent leaders, including Samrat Choudhary, Vijay Kumar Sinha, and Ashok Choudhary.

However, the event witnessed an unexpected disruption when a swarm of bees attacked the gathering, causing panic among attendees. Several participants, including political leaders, reportedly sustained minor injuries due to bee stings.

Meanwhile, senior leader Sanjay Jha praised Nitish Kumar’s leadership, stating that Bihar regained its dignity and carved a distinct identity at both national and international levels during his tenure. He highlighted that Nitish Kumar’s 21 years in public service were defined by a consistent emphasis on development, governance, and institutional reform.
