Hnahthial Excise & Narcotics Department Seizes 16 Soap Cases of Heroin No. 4

Hnahthial, April 2026: The Hnahthial District Excise & Narcotics Department seized 16 soap cases of Heroin No. 4 (weighing 189 grams) early this morning at around 5:00 AM between Khawhri and Thingsai.

A 28-year-old individual, Laihrethanga, son of Vawmkaithanga from Siahatla, was arrested as the carrier and owner of the contraband. The vehicle used for transportation—a Mahindra Bolero Maxx Pickup (registration number MZ 03A 1593)—was also seized.

A case has been registered under the ND&PS Act, and the accused was sent to Lunglei around 1:00 PM to be produced before the Judicial Magistrate Court.

According to the Officer-in-Charge of the Excise & Narcotics Department, Hnahthial, C. Lianchungnunga, the operation was carried out based on prior intelligence inputs. The team coordinated with Khawhri Village Council (VC) and YMA leaders the previous night before conducting the operation early in the morning.

As per the statement of the accused, the seized heroin reportedly belonged to an individual named Duha from Ralpel, Myanmar, and was intended for distribution in the Hnahthial and Lunglei areas.

The estimated local market value of the seized heroin is approximately ₹7.2 lakh.
