PCB Bans Blessing Muzarabani for Two Years Over PSL Exit for IPL
Lahore, April 2026 : The Pakistan Cricket Board has imposed a two-year ban on Zimbabwe fast bowler Blessing Muzarabani for pulling out of the Pakistan Super League at the final stage to participate in the Indian Premier League 2026 season.
The 29-year-old pacer, who had initially gone unsold in both IPL and PSL auctions, was later signed by Islamabad United as a replacement player. However, in a controversial move, Muzarabani withdrew from the PSL franchise and opted to join Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in the IPL.
KKR brought him in as a replacement for Mustafizur Rahman, who had been released from the squad following directives from the Board of Control for Cricket in India amid external developments. Muzarabani subsequently joined the KKR camp ahead of the IPL season.
Reacting strongly to the development, the PCB announced disciplinary action against the Zimbabwean cricketer. In an official statement, the board declared him ineligible to participate in the next two editions of the PSL with immediate effect.
The PCB emphasised that withdrawing from a contractual commitment without valid reason constitutes a breach of professional ethics and contractual obligations. It stated that such actions undermine the principles of trust and good faith that govern international franchise cricket.
The board also noted that the decision was necessary to protect the integrity and professionalism of the PSL. It reiterated its commitment to maintaining the league as a platform where contractual agreements are respected and where players and their representatives uphold the prestige of the tournament.
This is not the first instance of the PCB taking strict action against players for similar reasons. The board had earlier imposed a one-year ban on South African cricketer Corbin Bosch for a comparable breach of contract, signalling a firm stance on such matters.
Despite the controversy, Muzarabani has already featured in IPL 2026 for KKR. While he went wicketless in his debut match, he made a strong comeback in a subsequent game against Sunrisers Hyderabad, picking up four wickets and showcasing his bowling prowess.
Meanwhile, reports indicate that other players, including Spencer Johnson and Dasun Shanaka, also withdrew from their PSL commitments to participate in the IPL this season. However, no official action against them has been announced so far.
The incident highlights the growing tensions between global franchise leagues and raises questions about player commitments, scheduling conflicts, and the enforcement of contractual obligations in modern cricket.
