CM Rekha Gupta conducts surprise inspection of Metro Phase-4 works, stresses strict timelines

RK Ashram Marg to emerge as a major interchange hub; construction quality under review

Inderlok to Botanical Garden stretch set to span 88 km, poised to transform Delhi’s mobility

Chief Minister Rekha Gupta praised the Metro’s engineering works in crowded areas

New Delhi, April 2026 : Delhi Chief Minister Smt. Rekha Gupta on Saturday conducted a surprise inspection of ongoing construction at the RK Ashram Marg Metro station under Phase-4 of the Delhi Metro project, and reviewed the progress of works being carried out by the DMRC. She directed officials to ensure strict adherence to timelines, high construction quality and uncompromising safety standards. During the inspection, the Chief Minister said the RK Ashram Marg station is being developed as a key interchange hub that will connect the operational Blue Line with the Magenta Line. The station will be a crucial node on the 28.92 km Line-8 corridor extending from Janakpuri West to RK Ashram Marg.
Sharing an update on Phase-4 progress, she said stretches between Janakpuri West and Krishna Park Extension, and from Deepali Chowk to Majlis Park, have already been opened for commuters, while work on the remaining sections is progressing at a rapid pace. The corridor will pass through densely populated residential and commercial areas across West, North and Central Delhi, significantly reducing travel time, easing traffic congestion and helping bring down pollution levels.

A major portion of the project falls under the technically complex contract package, which includes the construction of nearly 7 km of twin tunnels and six major underground stations, Derawal Nagar, Ghanta Ghar, Pulbangash, Sadar Bazar, Nabi Karim and RK Ashram Marg. Praising the engineering effort, the Chief Minister noted that challenging tasks, such as building an underground station in the congested Sadar Bazar area and executing tunnel boring beneath active railway lines near Sabzi Mandi station, the Rani Jhansi flyover and the Red Line corridor, have been successfully completed.

She added that despite difficult geological conditions, including hard rock strata and waterlogged soil, construction is being carried out using advanced technologies and strict safety protocols, without disrupting surface traffic or existing transport services. Highlighting the strategic importance of the station, Gupta said RK Ashram Marg will not only function as a major interchange hub but will also serve as a foundation for future expansion of the metro network. To ease congestion in Central Delhi and strengthen connectivity to key administrative zones, including Central Vista, the Magenta Line will be extended from RK Ashram Marg to Inderlok via Indraprastha station.

The extension will include a 9.91 km stretch from RK Ashram Marg to Indraprastha and an 11.9 km stretch from Indraprastha to Inderlok. Once all phases are completed, the Magenta Line will run from Botanical Garden to Inderlok, covering around 88.4 km with 65 stations, making it the longest corridor in the Delhi Metro network and fully driverless.

Calling the Delhi Metro the ‘lifeline’ of the capital, the Chief Minister said millions depend on it daily, making quality, safety and timely completion non-negotiable. She made it clear that any negligence in construction will not be tolerated. Following the inspection, Gupta held a detailed meeting with senior DMRC officials to review the current status of the project, assess construction pace and discuss measures to enhance passenger amenities. She directed officials to maintain transparency while accelerating work so that the project is completed on schedule without causing inconvenience to the public.

Emphasising the city’s growing population and evolving mobility needs, the Chief Minister said developing modern, robust connectivity remains among the government’s top priorities. She expressed confidence that the project, once completed within the stipulated timeline, will provide Delhi residents with a safer, faster and more convenient travel experience, marking a significant step towards building a ‘Viksit Delhi.’
