Rajasthan to Boost E-Bus Fleet to Promote Clean and Efficient Public Transport

Jaipur, May 2026 : In line with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision and Chief Minister Bhajanlal Sharma’s appeal to reduce fuel consumption and promote environmental conservation, the Rajasthan government is taking significant steps to strengthen and modernise the state’s public transport system with a focus on eco-friendly mobility.

Under the PM e-Bus scheme and state-level initiatives, the government plans to deploy 500 electric buses across Rajasthan by August 2026 for public transportation. To support this transition, nine state-of-the-art e-bus depots are also being developed across the state.

Alongside this, the Rajasthan State Road Transport Corporation (RSRTC) fleet is being expanded. By August this year, the state will receive 144 Blue Line buses and 30 air-conditioned sleeper buses, which are expected to significantly improve long-distance travel services and passenger comfort.

A high-level review meeting on the progress and expansion of e-transport services was chaired by Chief Secretary V. Srinivas at the state secretariat. The meeting included officials from the Urban Development Department, Transport Department, Jaipur City Transport Services Limited, and RSRTC.

During the review, the Chief Secretary discussed the progress of electric bus procurement and overall e-transport expansion plans. He stated that Chief Minister Bhajanlal Sharma is committed to developing a modern, safe, and efficient public transport system for both urban and rural areas.

He added that rising urbanisation and increasing traffic congestion necessitate the expansion of electric mobility solutions. The introduction of e-buses is expected to significantly reduce pollution while improving public transport accessibility and convenience.

The Chief Secretary further noted that the new e-bus operations will make urban transport systems smoother and more organised, while also substantially reducing fuel consumption across the state.

The meeting also reviewed progress on cleanliness arrangements in Barmer city, in line with directives issued during the fifth “Raj-Unnati” review meeting held on May 15, 2026. The directives focused on addressing sanitation issues in densely populated colonies in border areas of Barmer.

Barmer District Collector Chinmayi Gopal informed the meeting that orders have been issued to clearly define jurisdictional responsibilities between the Municipal Council, Urban Improvement Trust, and concerned gram panchayats to ensure proper sanitation management.

Senior officials including Bhawani Singh Detha, Principal Secretary, Transport Department; Ravi Jain, Secretary, Urban Development Department; Barmer District Collector (via VC); Purushottam Sharma, Managing Director of RSRTC and JCTSL; and officials from the Planning Department were present at the meeting.
