Siddaramaiah Congratulates D.K. Shivakumar, Expresses Confidence in His Leadership of Karnataka and Congress
Bengaluru, May 2026 : Outgoing Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah on Saturday extended his congratulations to Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC) President D.K. Shivakumar following his unanimous election as the leader of the Congress Legislature Party (CLP), expressing confidence that he would successfully guide both the state and the party through future challenges.
In a heartfelt message addressed to the Chief Minister-designate, Siddaramaiah praised Shivakumar’s dedication to the Congress party and highlighted his long-standing contribution to the organisation. He said he had closely observed Shivakumar’s “indomitable energy, organisational abilities, and unquestionable loyalty” over the years and believed these qualities would continue to serve the people of Karnataka effectively.
Siddaramaiah noted that Karnataka has emerged as one of India’s leading states not only in terms of economic growth and per capita income but also in ensuring equitable distribution of wealth, opportunities, and social welfare benefits. He pointed out that several welfare initiatives introduced by the Congress government in Karnataka have become models for other states, bringing recognition and pride to the state.
Reflecting on his own tenure, Siddaramaiah said he felt privileged to have served the people of Karnataka as Chief Minister for a cumulative period of eight years. He added that during this time, efforts were made to strengthen the state’s economy, promote social justice, and build a self-reliant and progressive Karnataka.
“The responsibility of taking this development journey forward now rests with you,” Siddaramaiah told Shivakumar. “I am confident that you possess the commitment, capability, and vision required to continue this mission and achieve even greater success.”
The outgoing Chief Minister also referred to the broader economic challenges facing the country, saying that many citizens are grappling with uncertainty and financial insecurity. In such circumstances, he said, the new leadership must provide confidence and stability through effective governance while ensuring that Karnataka remains on a path of inclusive development.
Addressing the political landscape, Siddaramaiah acknowledged that the Congress party has faced setbacks at the national level in recent years. However, he stressed that while electoral defeats and victories are part of democratic politics, ideological defeat must never be accepted.
“Political setbacks can be overcome, but losing ideological conviction can ultimately lead to long-term decline,” he observed, emphasizing the need for the Congress to remain committed to its core principles and values.
He said the responsibility of restoring the Congress party’s former strength and influence lies with all party members and expressed hope that Shivakumar’s leadership would help unite the organisation and strengthen its position both within Karnataka and beyond.
Siddaramaiah also voiced concern over what he described as growing attempts to divide society on the basis of caste and religion. He warned against efforts that undermine constitutional values, suppress dissenting voices, and weaken the principles on which modern India was built.
Referring to the legacy of the Congress movement, he said the party was founded on the ideals of equality, secularism, social justice, and communal harmony. He urged party workers to strengthen these values at the grassroots level and continue working for a more inclusive society.
Calling the present period a crucial moment for the nation, Siddaramaiah said there was a need for a renewed commitment to protecting constitutional values, national unity, and democratic institutions.
Concluding his message, he assured Shivakumar of the full support of the Congress Legislature Party and the people of Karnataka. “In this important journey, not only the legislators but all seven crore people of Karnataka will stand with you,” Siddaramaiah said while wishing the incoming Chief Minister success in his new role.
