‘Muskan Group Women Changed Their Destiny Through Boating’

Pilkha Reservoir Becomes a Symbol of Women’s Empowerment; Boating Activity Generates Rs 74,000 in Income So Far

Raipur, June 2026 : Women in various parts of Chhattisgarh and other regions have set a remarkable example of women’s empowerment by successfully managing reservoirs, ponds, fisheries, and other livelihood activities. Through self-help groups, rural women are becoming self-reliant by connecting with local water resources.

The beautiful reservoir formed by the Pilkha Dam, located in Pahadgaon, a well-known tourist destination in Surajpur district, is today not only a center of natural beauty but also an inspiring example of women’s empowerment. Here, the women of the Muskan Women Self-Help Group have launched a boating activity and written a new chapter of self-reliance.

Collective Efforts Created a New Employment Opportunity

Under the leadership of Group President Mrs. Sunita Singh and Secretary Mrs. Yashoda Das, the 10-member group has successfully created a self-employment opportunity by linking itself with local tourism. A boating facility has been introduced for tourists visiting the reservoir, with a ticket price fixed at Rs 50 per person.

Turning Challenges into a Path to Success

In the initial stages, these rural women faced several major challenges, including a lack of resources, limited technical knowledge, and operational difficulties. Despite these obstacles, the group’s unity, hard work, and determination transformed challenges into opportunities.

Rather than depending on external assistance, the women took full responsibility for operating the boating service, ensuring tourist safety, and managing the entire facility. Through their dedication and commitment, they have successfully expanded and sustained the initiative.

Financial Strength and Growing Confidence

Through this commendable effort, the group has earned a net income of Rs 74,000 so far. This initiative has not only strengthened the financial condition of the women associated with the group but has also significantly boosted their confidence.

Today, these women are contributing to the livelihood of their families and have emerged as a source of inspiration for other women in society.

An Outstanding Example of Women Entrepreneurship

The remarkable achievement of the Muskan Women Self-Help Group clearly demonstrates that when rural women are provided with the right opportunities, proper support, and a suitable platform, they can create new success stories in any field.

The boating activity at Pilkha Reservoir has become a living example of rural women’s entrepreneurship, self-reliance, and empowerment. At the same time, it is helping to give local tourism a new identity and attracting more visitors to the area.
