Good News for the People of Buldhana District: Land Acquisition Notification for Khamgaon–Jalna Railway Line Finally Published in the Gazette

Union Minister of State Prataprao Jadhav Thanks Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw

Buldhana, June 2026 : A notification for land acquisition for the Khamgaon–Jalna railway line has been published in the Official Gazette, bringing welcome news for the people of Buldhana district. The persistent efforts of Buldhana MP and Union Minister of State Prataprao Jadhav have borne fruit. He expressed his gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw for their support.

The ambitious Khamgaon–Jalna railway line, which will be an important link connecting Central Railway networks and is expected to play a significant role in the development of Buldhana district, has been approved under the capital investment programme. The Maharashtra Government has agreed to bear 50 percent of the project cost, and a budgetary provision has already been made for this purpose. Following this, the proposal was forwarded to the Central Government.

Union Minister of State Prataprao Jadhav continuously pursued the matter with the Railway Ministry and the Central Government. His efforts have now yielded results, with the publication of the land acquisition notification in the Gazette.

Under Section 37A of the Railways (Amendment) Act, 2008 [S.O. 2647(E)], and exercising the powers conferred by Clause (37A) of Section 2 of the Railways Act, 1989, the Central Government has notified the “New Broad Gauge (BG) Line Project between Jalna and Khamgaon (162 km)” as a “Special Railway Project” under the Central Railway.

According to the Gazette notification, the project has been declared a Special Railway Project for the purpose of acquiring land in the districts through which the railway line will pass and for providing national infrastructure for a public purpose. The notification comes into effect from the date of its publication in the Gazette.

Persistent Efforts by Prataprao Jadhav

The demand for the Khamgaon–Jalna railway line has existed since the British era and has long been a major aspiration of the people of Buldhana district. The issue featured prominently in several Lok Sabha elections.

After being elected to the Lok Sabha for the first time in 2009, Prataprao Jadhav began actively pursuing the railway project. He repeatedly raised the issue in Parliament, leading to the approval of a survey for the route. Subsequently, the Central Government granted in-principle approval for the project under the capital investment programme and forwarded the proposal to the Maharashtra Government.

Jadhav then followed up with Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde, and the then Deputy Chief Minister and Finance Minister, the late Ajit Pawar, to secure the state’s 50 percent share of funding. After the state approved its contribution, the proposal was sent back to the Centre.

To secure the Central Government’s share of funding, Prataprao Jadhav held several meetings with Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw and continuously pursued the project. The proposal was subsequently forwarded to the Ministry of Finance.

With the publication of the land acquisition notification in the Gazette, a major milestone has now been achieved. The development is being seen as a landmark moment for Buldhana district.

Jadhav recalled that during a public meeting in Khamgaon in 2014, Prime Minister Narendra Modi had assured residents that the railway project would be completed. He thanked both the Prime Minister and Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw for making significant progress toward fulfilling that commitment.

Expressing his satisfaction, Prataprao Jadhav said that the publication of the land acquisition notification marks a crucial step toward the realization of the long-pending Khamgaon–Jalna railway line and opens a new chapter in the development of the region.
