Trump says Iran deal completed, warns of ‘ultimate consequences’ over nuclear weapons

Evian, June 2026 : US President Donald Trump on Tuesday announced that an agreement with Iran had been completed, describing it as a major diplomatic breakthrough while warning Tehran of severe consequences if it attempted to develop or acquire a nuclear weapon.

Speaking during a bilateral meeting with the Emir of Qatar, Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, on the sidelines of the G7 Summit in Evian, Trump said the agreement marked a significant step toward stabilising the Middle East after weeks of heightened tensions.

“We have our deal done with Iran, and it should be successful. It goes to a second stage, which I think will actually be easier,” Trump said, adding that military action had been considered but was ultimately avoided.

The US President revealed that Washington had been preparing for additional strikes against Iran before diplomatic efforts gained momentum. “We were doing it a third time, and we were able to not have to do that,” he said.

Trump categorically rejected reports suggesting that the United States would provide financial assistance to Iran under the agreement.

“We are not investing any money in Iran. That rumour was ridiculous. We have no obligation to invest money in Iran,” he stated.

According to Trump, the central objective of the agreement is to ensure that Iran never acquires a nuclear weapon.

“The only thing that matters to me is that Iran will never have a nuclear weapon,” he said. “They are not going to develop it, they are not going to buy it, and they are not going to do anything with it.”

The President issued a stern warning that any attempt by Tehran to pursue nuclear weapons would invite severe repercussions.

“If they do, they will suffer unbelievable consequences. I won’t even tell you the consequences, but they are the ultimate consequences,” he remarked.

Trump also disclosed that he had personally insisted on expanding the language of the agreement to prohibit not only the development of nuclear weapons but also their acquisition.

Referring to US Secretary of State Marco Rubio, Trump said initial drafts only barred Iran from developing nuclear arms. “I said, ‘No, you are not going to develop it, and you are not going to buy it either.’ That took another couple of days,” he explained.

The Emir of Qatar welcomed the agreement and credited Trump’s leadership for advancing negotiations. He described the deal as an important development while acknowledging that significant work remains to be done to achieve long-term stability in the region.

Qatar has played an increasingly prominent mediating role in regional diplomacy, and Trump praised Doha’s efforts in helping secure the agreement. He also highlighted growing economic ties between the two countries, claiming that Qatari investments in the United States would eventually exceed one trillion dollars.

“Qatar is going to be investing much more than a trillion dollars in the United States. There has never been anything like it,” Trump said.

The US President also addressed other international issues during the meeting. On the ongoing Russia-Ukraine War, Trump reiterated his call for peace and said he planned to meet Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky later in the day.

He revealed that he had spoken with Russian President Vladimir Putin on Sunday and expressed disappointment that the conflict remained unresolved.

“I have settled eight wars. This was the one I thought would be the easiest to settle,” Trump said, attributing the difficulties to deep hostility between the leaders of Russia and Ukraine.

Trump also voiced frustration over continued Israeli military operations in Lebanon, particularly an attack that reportedly occurred shortly before the signing of the Iran agreement.

Referring to Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, he said, “We have a great relationship, but I didn’t like that he did an attack.”

The President suggested that Israel should exercise greater restraint in Lebanon and indicated that Syria could play a role in addressing the threat posed by Hezbollah.

Trump’s remarks underscored the wide-ranging diplomatic agenda surrounding the G7 Summit, where global leaders are grappling with conflicts in the Middle East, the war in Ukraine and emerging security challenges.
